I think the word is jealousy. My advice would be too take all their words with a pinch of salt and drive home with a on your face.

There was a post recently on the AVO Owners Club website by a Mexico owner who on attending his first National Day had a very negative experience via comments made by some visitors and was considering not renewing his membership.

Perhaps they were from the same clan as the people who spoke to you? It was not even established weather or not they were club members.
