hi all, in need of more help please. I have a 78 mk2 automatic shell I am converting with a 2.0 Pinto alloy sump 4 branch manifold and a type 9 gearbox. 1st = where does the clutch cable go into the bulkhead? 2nd = the steering column wont go due to part of the manifold in the way. I believe many of these automatics have been converted so what am I missing? Cheers.

Manifolds are usually different specs , so no 1 make is usually the same , try another 1 ??

As for the clutch cable , this is a mk1 , it has a tube welded throgh the bulkhead at a 45 degree angle , for the cable to be alligned with the pedal , same principle on the mk2

thanks for the reply's. is there a plate with the tube on it that can be purchased and bolted on rather than welded?. as for the manifold I bought the engine from a mate and the manifold came with it so I have no idea if its a Capri

The plate with the clutch cable tube is fitted to manual shells only I'm afraid. I had to drill the old plate off my auto shell and weld in a donor piece. If your shell is already painted or you can't locate a donor plate/tube, it might be an easier option converting the clutch to hydraulic so the only drilling to your bulkhead is for a small copper pipe.

With the manifold I was thinking Capri or Cortina also

And the position of the cable tube has to be bang on with the arc of pedal travel or the cable will wear through. If I was doing mine again I'd defo go hydraulic. It's a mare stopping cables melting with big manifolds.

would I need to buy a bias pedal box to convert to the hydraulic clutch conversion? also this would do away with the need of a servo tower also?

and the clutch cable really doesn't last that long without that tube I can tell you!

I think almost by default you'd be forced to use a bias box as I don't think you can get a Hydraulic clutch pedalbox which would still accommodate for the OEM brake linkage setup. From what I'm aware a bias pedal box is only available with/without the hydraulic clutch option.

I suppose you could go for the type of setup Mk1 Twin cams had as I think they had Hydraulic clutches but still retained the tower

    Re: HELP PLEASE (with photos)

seems to be an expensive and difficult option, I think the best thing to do is fabricate a plate with the tube and bolt it to my bulkhead in the correct position to save me welding. that would be the cleanest way I think. as for the manifold I will call burton and order the correct one. thanks for your help.
