As theres quite a few ending up on Base model 1.3 and the like Being made to look like a real RS
Even Ebay are pulling these when they spot them or get reports now, I have heard of 2 ringers trying to be sold in the last 3 weeks
If it's only the paperwork then I agree Brian...I was going to write in my first reply that technically it's illegal to transfer the V5 without the vehicle physically existing. But sometimes the old shell with tags is part of the deal, in which case it's entirely possible that the vehicle could be resurrected legitimatelyBanishit said:

From a legal point of view it's black and white...no vehicle-no V5...but it's still a moot point amongst enthusiasts. How many RS2000s and Mexicos were reshelled in the 70's and 80's after a shunt or a roll?? Very rarely would it be into a h/d RS shell...but it'll still say RS or Mexico on the logbook. How many times in the 70's and early 80's was a 1300 Pop dressed up with a nosecone, fishnets and all the RS paraphenalia...and when the logbook was sent off to the DVLC (as was...) asking for it to be changed to an RS2000...and they'd duly oblige!! A lot more Escorts were registered as RS's than were actually built by Ford

Agreed I know of an "RS2000" that was built using base model shell for hillclimbing then sold to someone who restored back to its original condition only 1100 populars never came with pinto's and Recaro seatsBanishit said:

yeah i got the vin plates to,its a hole rs2000 but the shell is scrap,was just interested to see what the book was worth? cheeRS
if you have the whole shell around £250 for a low owner good colour
the chap iam hopin to buy it off thinks its had about 10 owners,it a red one with one of those peel back sun roof things,was goin to just scrap the shell cause i aint got room for it,an it needs a load of welding i am just buyin it for the engine an all the bits to put on another shell,an was thinking of selling the log book
10 owner red not worth £100 there was a nordic blue one 2 or 3 owner went the other day for £250

It’s a pity EBay don’t see them as illegal sales the amount there are on there, I’ve reported at least 30 which are clearly sold for ringing purposes as the are complete with vin plates and are Live. But NOTHING!! Gets done or ads removed.
