    Speedo Removal

I have removed the dash from my 1973 Mexico today, and am struggling to remove the speedo cable. In the Haynes manual it says to undo the knurled nut, but all I can see on mine is a white plastic cover which will turn slightly, and does move inwards towards the dash. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hmmmm...

Difficult this.... Not to do but to explain....

Right, the larger diameter part of the plastic bit will move/bend to one side or something & allow it to 'un-clip' from the back of the speedo clock. Just have to have a fiddle about with it & it'll come off easy in the end!!!!

    I think that makes sense

it " the white plastic bit" has a lug inside which goes through the metal surrounding the cable itself and to remove you press one side of itso the other side with the lug releases from the metal housing if that makes sense ?

once you get the lug released the cable comes out really easily you DO NOT need to force it

Is it a bit like a bayonet fitting on a light bulb? I've just gone out now to try it again and its turning about 180 degrees but still not coming off and my fingers are starting to hurt!!

NO. It's not like a bulb.

You know like on a kiddie-safe lid on white spirit for example, where you have to press two sides in to undo it??? Well it's like that but only on one side ... Press & pull at the same time. It's just that you have to press in the right direction which is the tricky bit.

the only thing the 'bible' is good for is hitting the kids with it when they get to close to the car with their grubby fingers.
