    Cosworth rods in a pinto

I'm currently re building a pinto turbo engine after doing the ring lands in on my budget build. I'm using pinto crank, cosworth rods and Pistons and pinto h/p h/f oil pump.

I'm struggling to find any local machine shops willing to drill the rods for an oil jet under the piston. I'm reluctant to go down the cosworth pump, spray bar and pick up route unless I have to. What other options are there?

Is the oil jet really needed on a road engine? Can the piston simply have a groove cut into the pin hole to aid lubrication?

    cheers for any advice.

    Bri.

Seems very over spec for a general road car. I would just make sure pump is good quality and you have big sump and good breather system

That's what I'm trying to find out if it's really nessesary to have the oil jets. Will the little ends wear quickly without them? Will it adversely effect piston crown temps at say a bar of boost?

Why not just fit the cossie spray bar and 2wd Sump???
Thats what i did with mine.
It will fit with standard pinto mounts on standard crossmember with the rear lip trimmed.
Then the oil system is as per factory.

I have everything in place already. Would have to buy sump, pickup, pump, dipstick and tube, get sump welded for various bosses etc. also maybe mod down pipe depending on sump shape.

I imagine people who fit steel rods have the same dilemma as these don't have oil squirters either.

file a slot in the side of the rod, it will help spray oil up towards the pin you can even do both sides of the rod, bmw m10/m30 rods are like it from the factory

whether you need more lube or not might be another matter

Does the shell get filed to match the rod graham? Think there should be plenty of oil splashing around as I have a high pressure high volume pump making 90psi

What about the weight of the cossy rod and piston setup vs the pinto crankshaft counter weights.is there any problems with ballanceing them ?
