St170 head onto silvertop bottom end

    Hello all,
move joined up here as I'm looking for advice on putting an st170 head onto my fully forged silvertop bottom end, currently fitted with a blacktop head...
I will be using a Davies Craig electric water pump setup but what I really need is some advice of what adjustments to the tensioner system are required? Pics would be helpful cheers

    Bit of encouragement - 270hp

This swap question is usually the otherway round, st170 better bottom end with simpler (non vct) blacktop/silvertop head.

    Bit more info here.

Thanks mate, I messaged the guy with the 270bhp zetec a few days ago as my setup is near identical....I think it's gunna be a case of offering the head upto the block and going from there

Can anyone else shed any light on this? I've been thinking, if I'm planning to use an electric water pump, then surely I should just be able to use the st170 tensioner setup which will come with the head?

Re: St170 head onto silvertop bottom end

if it helps I'm using a black top head on silver bottom, and made a very tight bung press fit and stud grade loctited in the hole. Drilled a blind hole and tapped for tensioner bolt. Keeps the Silvertop belt arrangement.

    Fitted the rear plate.

No idea if it works as yet as engine not been fired up. But see no reason for it not to. The bung cant fall into the head as I made a spigot on the back and it cant come outwards as the plate would stop that.

Thanks for the reply mate, looks good. My exist setup is actually a black top head on a silver top bottom end so I wonder if I can use my exist modification on the 170 head

Picture is from an article in Classic Ford July 2013 for a high bhp Zetec build. Picture show a plate with a tensioner added in the front.
