How to Fit 2wd Cossie 4 Pots to RWD Escort.

I have been doing this conversion for a few years and I personally think its a great little setup, why? well the cossie 4 pot is one of the best 4 pots about, albeit a little heavy prehaps but its got amazing clamping force, its has four 40mm pistons a very rigid body.

I use a disk from rally Design (which is a replacement disk for thier willwood kit) for the base of the conversion part number BD13/285. This fits directly to the rear of the hub with the standard fittings.

A bracket needs to be made which I do with 13mm plate, I dont have a pattern I simply drill the first hole and mark up the rest one at a time, use a piller drill to ensure the holes are parrellel, one all the holes are in I measure the disk centre and then get a local machine shop to surface grind the braket to the required thinkness (around 11.5mm).

The caliper will need the webbing removed between its mount holes to clear the bracket to hub mounting bolts.

This conversion will need a 15" wheel to clear, the ideal master cylinder size is 5/8th of an inch (0.625)

Heres a few pics of the conversion:

You might be able to use a 4x4 cossie one but I still think the offset is wrong, havnt got one here to compare, but you would need to machine the centre and the mounting holes, by the time you have done that it would be cheaper using the Rally design disk.

Not sure why you would want drilled or grooved disks but I am sure they could if you asked them.

Well a mate of mine has them on a road rally Mk.2 Dave, and that's on 13" RS alloys. So...yes, they will go under 13" rims!! Next time I see him I'll look at the car to see how they've been fitted and let you know.
It's always surprised me that this setup isn't more common on Escorts. They're more powerful than Princess 4-pots, the same sort of weight, and half the price. I suppose that most people can't be bothered to make a bit of an effort to get them fitted, whereas a Princess caliper bolts directly on.

This conversion will not fit under 13" wheels, you may however be able to get the calipers under 13" wheels if you use smaller 260mm disks.

Re: How to Fit 2wd Cossie 4 Pots to RWD Escort.

Clint do the discs for this conversion sit further out from the hub than standard escort discs-as the bracket mounts push the caliper out (or in whichever side of the bracket you mount them?)
Ie do you mount the calipers outboard of the bracket, or inside (nearer inner wing)-i'm guessing outside??

Re: How to Fit 2wd Cossie 4 Pots to RWD Escort.

    anyone thought about XJS calipers

been trying to find some dimensions on them,

    they take a 284x24mm disc
    also have 48mm pistons

not sure if they would fit under 13inch wheels though

    Hi!

Is that the ONLY disc that will fit?
The RS500/2wd-Cosworth disc "BM203",283/24 they have at Rally Design, doesn´t fit ??

They are Group4 hubs converted to normal wheel nuts.

    Hi!

The RS500/2wd-Cosworth disc "BM203",283/24 did NOT fit,I checked it today.
Just have to send them back to Rally Design and change them into the BD13/285 discs...
Here´s a link to their brakekit, with the discs.....

Hi, Does anyone know if using the cossie calipers on 2.8i struts with the vented discs from a 2.8 capri, would work on 13in's. has anyone done it, wouldn't the brackets move the caliper over and not have the disc in the centre of the caliper or would it be fine. or is that the reason for after market discs.
    cheers james

As far as i understand it the webbing where the bolts go on the calipers is too long and sticks the callipers into the wheel? Otherwise i feel it would be a popular mod if you could get them under a 13"

So forgive me if this is a stupid question but can you use 2wd cossie brakes front and rear on a mk1 escort or not?

Could you be more specific in what adjustments need to be made to the calipers? I don't understand which part needs removing?

I spose you've been asked before but.....any chance of making me up a pair of brackets? Or a cardboard template?

    Thanks a lot, Aid
