Re: Thread for throttlebodies, pics and dimensions

Thank god for this thread, made my mind up out of supercharging or throttle bodies and ive decided the throttle bodies would be best, im looking to run megasquirt and use a set of bike carbs gutted out so theyre basically just the throttle plate as it would seem my engine has direct to head injectorshalfway there, only thing im really worried about is its going onto a 1.25 and im dead sure no1 has a basemap for one of them so i dunno what im gonna do there

and another thing, its a mk5 fiesta so would have to have the take off for the brake servo yes i know its a shopping car thing but i do need that vacuum assisted servo

erm apart from that its pretty straightforward, anyone got anything to add or some flaws to pick out in my plan?

whats important is the size of bore at the butterfly. smaller t/b and carbs ie sub 36mm @ butterfly tend to be cheaper since most want 2.o/180+ bhp. try to match port area +

Re: Thread for throttlebodies, pics and dimensions

well the gsxr600 carbs are 36mm bore im fairly sure theyre up to the task of feeding a 1.25 as im not looking for massive gains like 180bhp or whatever more like taking it up to 90-100bhp just to make it a bit more intresting when i put the foot down..............then theres the sound

gsxr t/b are 36mm , i cant imagine the carbs are the same ? are they ? smaller will be better for 100 bhp.

mmmmm.... weber 45's are 45mm i suppose, but you need to choke them.
not that it matters tho as 36mm is above optimum anyway.

can the plastic inlet be adapted?
start a new thread on it ??

IMO the best way to compare is to look at what hp the bike made, if your engine makes less it should be fine.

Id imagine it can be im gonna get a proper inlet to try that with tho as the one thats on my car is the crappy economy one with square runners

sorry if its a silly question but by choked what do you mean as im new to all this throttle bodies stuff

just checked, the gsxr 600 makes 115bhp, spot on very close to my target infact, plus in the future i could always throw on a bigger set or get proper jenvys

Because the early ones are made up from 4 individual throttle bodies, so you can take them apart and space them for your own application. That way you should get your fuel flowing directly into your cylinder instead of having to navigate round the bend in an inlet manifold

    Quick Q:

If you're bolting bike throttlebodies on an ST170 manifold (using a Focus fuel rail in the ST170 manifold), do you have to use fluoro silicone hose, or will normal silicone be ok?

I.e. Are the joiners far enough upstream not to be affected by the petrol?

if they are upstream then i certainly wouldnt worry. lots use std silicone downstream.

Re: Thread for throttlebodies, pics and dimensions

Ok guys am sorry to sound dense here, but i recently bought some R1 TB's for the zetec Sillvertop fitment, they are complete with custom manifold and came with two sets of Focus RS injectors (not attached), however I have seen this exact set sold previously as R1 carbs?? now I know that carbs dont use injectors but is there a chance that i have bought R1 cabs instead of R1 TB's? When I asked the previous owner he said they were sold to him as TB's and he does not know the difference, so i am confused now. Anyway here are some pics, will be gratful if someone can tell me.

Re: Thread for throttlebodies, pics and dimensions

pics are too small for me to see but remember that if you take a carb and block the fuel/air channels then it in effect becomes a throttle body. porpous made throttle bodies have injector pockets, converted carbs dont. they look a bit like a set i once made/sold. get a bigger pic up please.

looks just like them yes. They are now on a plastic inlet mani. I dont know if they are R6's or zxr's, will either of these be ok for a 2.0 silvertop? any restrictions?

Converted carbs will work but not optimally as you'll have the slide cavity to cause turbulence and a raised floor for the venturi effect required in a carb which is a restriction but not major! You could bore them out to reduce the ventri and fill in the cavities will pick up any deficiencies.

Re: Thread for throttlebodies, pics and dimensions

Hi there, just curious if someone could help me??

I plan on putting a set of toyota 45mm individual throttle bodies onto my standard 2.0 Blacktop Zetec. The throttle bodies come with injectors that are apparently about 300cc each.

What size are the std blacktop injectors and what power are they rated up to?

I do plan on doing some mods to the engine in the future such as head job, exhaust and possibly cams.

Just curious if I could use the std Ford Injectors so I could use the std ford plugs which would save me finding those injector plugs for the Toyota.

The ones from the Mondeo lump I got are apparently rated at about 180 - 200cc/min but don't know if that was @ 3bar FP or lower? I'm hoping they'll cope upto about 175-180hp

Re: Thread for throttlebodies, pics and dimensions

Not sure if this is the right place as the Zetec SE is probably more like a Duratec but anyway it's a Zetec do here goes .........

This is my installation of Bike Throttle Bodies on a Puma 1.7 Zetec SE (also OK for the Fiesta, Focus, Puma 1.25/1.4/16 Zetec SE's as well as far as I can tell).

I had originally bought two sets of 2001 Triumph RS sprint throttle bodies (955i Triple engine IIRC) for a Mazda MX6 KLDE engine (aborted project), so when I got the Puma engine for my Anglia I offered up the inlet gasket and to my surprise they were almost mm perfect in both inlet shape and spacing. These throttle bodies are similar to the Jenvey Direct to head ones in that they have a round inlet but an oval outlet and so match the inlet ports on the head well.

As for mounting, as they have an oval exit a flat plate adaptor (10mm ally laser cut) is all that is needed, the throttle bodies are held on with self clinching stainless m6 studs (you could use coutersunk bolts if not), the plate is then held onto the head with countersunk m8 stainless bolts. You need to countersink deep enough so that the bolts rotate with the TB's in place as thy overlap. I also centralised the ports as the approx 1mm difference did not affect the throttle body connections and balance adjustment screws. Note you need to shave off a little bit of the TB mounting lugs as they foul the injector bosses on the engine.

Once fitted I added some full radius trumpets (brake duct ends) from Larkspeed (46mm) which do have a bit of a step but good enough for me, you could blend them in if you really wanted to, and a set of Ramair foam filters.

So, all up I think it has cost me around £150 (2 sets of throttle bodies £70, inlet trumpets £25, filters £25, ally plate £30) with very little work to be done, this is pretty much a bolt on and go solution and hopefully with a decent exhaust will give me around £150hp.

    Pictures of dimensions and fittings.

    Pictures of dimensions and fittings.

bit of a thread resurrection.... i'm rather hoping to clone this with an airbox over the trumpets and retain the factory triumph IAC manifold which randomly has 4 ports despite being fitted to a triple??!
