Cheers! I know it won't be to everyone's taste, but I don't think it's really possible to undo the chopping that he did years ago! Better to make the best out of what he's got now

Front wings now blended in and virtually ready for primer:

Dad also built a panhard rod tower and bar ready to fit to the axle - looks every bit as good as anything I've seen!

Dad has done some more bits and bobs with the Anglebox....

Engine bay is painted in the final colour and the XE is in:
    IMG_20171015_111013-.jpg

Remote servo mounted under the glovebox:
    IMG_20171015_111309-.jpg

The new mk2 Escort coilover legs are in, and dad is using my original mk1 hubs, spaced Princess 4pots and 2.8 Capri vented disks:
    IMG_20171015_110948-.jpg

Type 9 box is in place and mounted up. Need a small modification to the brace he made for the underside of the tunnel, since the new prop is quite large diameter:
    IMG_20171015_111726-.jpg

    IMG_20171015_111748-.jpg

The new prop is a little long, around 3", so will need to be shortened.

The whole car is starting to look good now. Probably only a matter of weeks before the car comes down off the jig and on to it's wheels and new suspension for the first time.

Re: Anglia 105e - pickup, arched and Vauxhall XE!

Dad is on finishing the brakes at the moment - Princess 4 pots and 2.8 Capri vented disks up front and 2.8 Capri drums at the rear. Then hoping to get it down on its wheels finally!

He's using a 0.75" Wilwood master cylinder and single circuit MGB style servo for both front and back. Pedal feel is generally great, but needs a second press to get pressure - first press goes to the floor.

We keep getting little bits of air out, but can't figure out where it is coming from. Thinking it could be from a second hand flexi he used to the rear axle, or maybe the inlet/outlet setup on the rear drums, where one pipe goes in and then feeds the other side. One noticeable point is that the fronts will lock easily - you can't turn them - but with the same pressure the rears can still be turned by hand (and only pushes out a very small amount of fluid when bleeding).... perhaps a partially blocked rear line or something?

Brakes are now sorted - turned out it was the 3rd bleed nipple on the inside of the Princess calipers. Must have been a pocket of air in each caliper that wasn't getting bled out. Really solid pedal now.

Car is down off the spit and it's looking really good:

Next up is to finish the boot area - fitting fuel pump, regulator and pipework, as well as fitting the fuel filler properly. Then on to things like the electrics, ignition system (Nodiz with tps, probably), dashboard, gauges, heater etc.

Re: Anglia 105e - pickup, arched and Vauxhall XE!

Question about your Milton weld in kit..

I got the team deville weld in kit, brackets are a little different. Installed it where I felt like it wouldn't rub on anything. Reinstalled the shock absorber and it means back on a slight angle. Maybe 5° or so. It looks almost identical to yours unless it's just pictures. Do you think this affects the performance of the absorber at all and any handling characteristics?

Also pretty hard to weld around the whole bracket, as long as you get the bottom top and sides should be good for strength? I can see the penetration inside the boot. As for the lower brackets, the inside portion butts up to the original mounting tabs and sits on it, hard to tell if the Milton kit is the same from the pictures. Just thought it would give the added strength.

Hi, the shocks are tilted back slightly - perhaps a couple of degrees, probably not as much as 5 though. As dad isn't using the Anglia axle he had a bit more freedom to place the mounts

Fair enough, crawled under my friends race Anglia last night and took a look at his suspension. Pretty even with what mine looks like. Didn't want to start cutting away parts of the body.

What axle did you and your dad end up going with?

if it helps. I have an original Milton weld in turret kit on my car. You specifically incline the shocks slightly to the centre of the car. I would need to check but from memory they are vertical though.

Re: Anglia 105e - pickup, arched and Vauxhall XE!

After some research I don't think it would make a difference.

Apparently even if they're 10° off centre they still run at 98% efficiency

I would imagine as with my milton kit you have to have some incline to the centre of the car to account for the axle going through an arc on up and down movement. Also look at early mk1 escorts (i have one) they have shocks that are really angled inwards.

Starting to build up the fuel system:

    P1080748-.JPG

Apart from the tank, it's the complete setup that I had when the XE was in my Escort. So it should all work well; Facet solid state pump and fuel regulator. We decided to mount the regulator in the boot as there's not a lot of room up front in the Anglia engine bay. Should also protect it from any knocks or damage too.

The tank came from Compbrake, but we're not sure what the sender is, so it's going to be a case of getting the multimeter out to measure resistance at full and empty so that we can get a gauge to suit it later.

Hey Mark, Dad wants to do it a flat grey colour like the current Focus RS. Most of the chrome will be the same colour - it's all quite pitted and poor quality, so will be getting colour coded to the body. Bumpers will be coloured as well. About the only thing not grey will be the grill, which is going to be black. He's also still considering about doing the roof a different colour - probably either white/cream or black.

Cool looking project, I'm interested how you get on with the Nodiz ignition as I'm thinking of using the same thing for my Escort.

Starter is wired up and the engine now turns over, he's got a vacuum take off machined in to the inlet manifold for the servo as well. Dad is now in the process of fitting the Nodiz kit, but the carbs need stripping and cleaning before he can think about firing it up.

One thing he hasn't worked out yet is what to do with the dash - either keep the original clocks, (which are in dreadful condition), blank it off and fit new ones (which would have to be small to fit in the original dash), or just add extras to the top of the dash like the 'works' style fibreglass dash tops.
