Gen on xe'ing a capri please

    Hi

I've been looking around found some info but not enough so heres a run down of what i want an xe into a capri could someone tell me whats involved.

First of all i should be able to get the dis pack ecu & loom from a later xe engine but the engine i might be getting is an earlier non dis pack engine are there any differences in cams & head castings?.

I gather i'll need a blanking plate for the dizzy hole.

What sort of exhaust manifold should i looking for or is it a custom job?

On actually fitting the engine, do you use the manta gear box, spiquit bearing sp? astra clutch etc what sort of prop & diff should i be looking bolt up?
    pray:

    Thanks

Hi mate-instead of using the Getrag box why not use the Ford type 9 5 speed sierra box?? You will need a new bellhousing to mate it to the XE-but all the other little bits like spigot bearing can be bought from Yukspeed-along with many other conversion parts-bellhousing included.
If you read the parts required thread most of the bits you need will be in there-the conversion should be the same for a Capri-or message Fodderboy as he has done this in his Capri.
SBD do the blanking plate for the dizzy-not sure on the differences between early and late engines-maybe have a look on migweb as they are Vauxhall buffs lol (www.migweb.co.uk)
Again a specific exhaust manifold is required-this alone can give great results-around £170.
If you use a ford box use the ford plate, XE cover.
Manta sump is ok if you mount at 7 degrees as its designed for that-or a steel sump again from Yukspeed for a level install.
Chassis mounting is probably the best bet for engine positioning.

    HTH's, John.

type 9 5 speed sierra box i have seen this done with xe in a saph the bolting of the type9 was abit out of line, they used cav turbo pressure plate & 1.8 sierra friction plate but would that last. It seemed more straight forward to fit the manta box as its bolts directly. Chassi mount wouldnt be very harsh having no rubber in between, i did pm fodderboy but he hasnt been on for a while.

Best to just wait for fodder boy i guess

I just looked at yuckspeed found the xe conversion bits, i didnt know that ford bellhousings could bolt together, i've been used to vauxhalls & vw's boxes as one never had a ford.
Mostly everything is there except the engine mounts.

    Thanks

The chassis mount kits do have rubber bushes in them as far as i'm aware-Ian on here with the Mex has just told me about using a sierra 2.3 diesel clutch plate-more robust and cheap-£23 apparently-as long as you use the type 9 obviously. You may have to make up new mounts though which should be straightforward for the box, you'd have to make mounts for the Getrag box anyways.
Yes the type 9 boxes bellhousing is a bolt on-easy to do. Just get the correct one for your install-7 degree or level.
Yuk does the chassis mount kit too-£68. Although it needs cutting/welding for your own application depending where its mounted-again 7 degree or level.

I just went to look at a pre dizzyless engine & the cam & head casting protrude nearly 2inches out so would make in hard to fit, on the look for a later engine which is doesnt have this.

i'll take of the info Thanks
