Price of having a xf gt head polished and polished/ gas flowed?
Hello just wondering how much it would cost to get my cylinder head polished and the the golf ball pits added want to keep the standard port? Rough prices and recommendations of people for having it done ? Possibly bigger valves ???? Also need the valve seats done for unleaded cheers Adam.

a lot will depend on what you actually want/need. to do a full porting job it will need drilling for guides, they open need spring seats machining to suit the valve springs that your cam requires, you can have new std valves, or competition valves that are std size, or big valves, unless its on a bonkers spec engine stick to mexico/gt valve sizes, especially if going unleaded.
most fast road style heads do not have guides or a full porting job, and actually do a decent enough job with the usual bcf2 and 40's

only one place to put a bcf2 cam and it's certainly not in your engine

Try giving Dave Rushton Engines a ring for valve seats and spring seat machining prices, he's in the Potteries somewhere. If you have got the best part of a Grand to part with you can try Mr Brookes in Crewe.
Why not get the correct information and try a bit of basic porting yourself.

steve curson at vulcan, did my head, sent pictures of every part of the process, does this type of engine all the time. expensive but if you get what you want first time then its worth it.

Vulcan were famous for X flows in the late 70's some quick 1700cc Hot Rod Engines.
I don't think Adam wants to spend big money on his Cylinder Head as he's running on a budget.

Thanks for all the replays im not into spending huge amounts of money but i will spend what is necessary. the one thing i want is for the job to be right i dont mind spending the money as long as i can see the results. ive got a drimmel and various tips should i try it myself ? Theres a couple of tutorials on YouTube and on the internet but i don't want to cock it up. I would like to keep the standard ports just make them a bit more slippery. the head is a gt head with big valves. Ive been recommended a few people to do the job and im going to ring around see whos best.

There are a few xf experts on the forum you could approach

RACE is not an Engineering Machine Shop, so they won't be able to do your valve seats and ports.
What they might have is a second hand cylinder head off a Rally engine for sale.

what cam are you going to use? if its a bcf2, 224,234 and your not running MASSIVE carburation, do not go bigger than gt valve sizes infact BIG valves and unleaded do not go well together away.
assuming you simply want a fast road type head i would be talking about £300-350 which will give you something of a guide

Re: Price of having a xf gt head polished and polished/ gas flowed?
hi ive started this this week and up to now going well. i have removed all the impuritys in teh casting and ive now got a good smooth finish inside. i haven't done much metal removal apart from taking out the lip from the port to the valve seat, and the gagged edge around the guides. im going buff them tomorrow but al i have done is made it slippery and left the ports as the are. getting a good shinny finish. so this should make is breath much better.
