    900ss 955i or Speedtriple

Your thoughts on either of these trio please.

    Which one would you buy?

I believe they can all be had for approx 3k?

From a late "carbed" 900ss to an early 955i

I so gotta get me one of them but which one pray:

All bikes will obv have to have high level carbon cans

Id go for an early buell firebolt, the 02 models going for around £3500.

ive heard their very nice to ride and seem to be the sort of bike your after, plus they hold/held the record for the longest stoppie

Have to agree with Glyn on this one, triumph 955i all the way (even though Glyn is biased to the 595 :hugh: )

    Re: 900ss 955i or Speedtriple

Having worked on/rebuilt triumph's and Ducati's I would recommend none of them, there's loads of stuff out there for £3k that you can enjoy by riding not rebuilding.

XJR13 with system, inlet rubbers dynojet etc 130hp
Aprillia Falco, half faired Mille, forks s/arm,wheels all fit straight in
    Gsxr, the choice is yours,6,750,thou
    ZRX11/12
    900 Hornet
Blade, early 929 or minty carby
    R1
    SV1000
    TLS
    Blackbird
    etc etc etc

    Re: 900ss 955i or Speedtriple

The 595 and early 955's are a complete pig to work on, they're quite heavy on chain and sprockets, some had porous sump's (think silver sump was rectified and black was leaker )

Various things 'fall off' inside the engine, on some Triumph in their wisdom used a studded bar on the alternator drive with an 8mm nut on each end, if you were lucky the nut falls off alternator side and just rattles around a bit, if not it drops straight in to the gearbox, mashing the nut which falls in to the oil pump directly below.
Had one run a crank on all 3 big ends, headrace bearings are always loose/notchy and a complete percy: to replace, taper bottom bearing and normal sealed bearing in the top.
The oil filler is the wrong side of the front sprocket, so its gasket and might as well change the oil to get to front sprocket.
Noy alot of ground clearance due to the typically made 'british' exhaust by Moturd, which with use all the springs snap.
Had a couple with overheating probs and fuelling is bad low down on early ones.
There's other stories I could tell, But I wouldn't want to put you off

If it has to be a non jap twin then the Falco is the best value, reliable but with same power as mille and all the goodies off the pre factory R will bolt straight on, there's plenty of stuff about since they scrapped the mille challenge last year.

Or just buy a TL1000s and spend the £500 left over and i'll sort its handling, Firestorms are just as cheap now.
If you go Ducati then the two valve motors are more reliable (as the 4 valve is basically the same bottom end, but revs higher and makes more power) and anything under 900 is embarissing, the std 748 is gutless wheras the 'R' and SP are great, but theyre all still strong money.

I know where there's a Gsxr1000k2 for under £2k with a blown motor, but then you dont want a jap
