Bought this a few years ago, 1600 Auto, £300 still in it's unfinished form, but if the engine does what it should, 300 bhp to begin with, then see where it takes me, (other than the cemetery)

Vauxhall red top Turbo, Vauxhall omega 5 speed manual, custom prop, and an Atlas rear with 3;44 ratio, thickened tubes, solid discs, cosworth calipers,
Mexico deep dish steels, uprated front shocks, vented front discs, not sure what the calipers are off, should make approx 300 and that's before playing with the turbo, and then later maybe touch the cams?
Bodywise, i may leave it as it is, a total bucket of nails! I am still looking for a pair of front door cards in black, I have everything else, fuel pump, tank, uprated ally rad, oil cooler, battery in the boot, bulkhead and heater bowl have been repaired, the underside has been coated in primer, sealant, fibreglass resin, 2 dead sheep and some dribble from my friends Nan! All i want is to go thru a puddle and come out with dry feet and my heater working!
Gearbox tunnel has had a slight mod, but being an Auto originally, not too much to worry about, engine has it's 7 degree tilt, new wings, slam panel and other bits from magnum panels, it's never going to be a show car, but won't hang around!
electronics is a Canems make, the guys didn't like the idea of using megasquirt so suggested this make as this is what they have in their 10 race cars. who am i to quibble?
Before the red top, i had am Mt75 2wd box and a 2.3 Granada bottom end with the Escort rs2000 mk4/5 head on it? I can't quite remember now, with the mk1 Mondeo loom, rwd modded exhaust manifold, but the engine was way too tall, way too wide and so gave that up, the guys helping were not that happy about it so it was sold and a year later spoke to a guy in Scotland regarding red tops and mantas etc... and he sold me the turbo version i have now.
i run the 2.3 in my rally car it is a cracking engine and fits lovely. Also if you need an axle tubed up give me a shout i have done a couple nowOriginally Posted by jv57

I don't blame you the redtop turbo lump is a great motor.
It was the guy's fitting it that were concerned, but i am hoping to have the car on the road next year. just need to find the correct clutch and plate to marry the engine to the Omega box .
The bias box is next to be fitted.
That would look cool if the body work was left like that. ....imagine the pigs faces when they pulled it to find it was motd and taxed
Interesting post....i hear the omega box (r30) is a rare find......id like one for my project but i think its too big to fit tbh....non ford sorry but similar parts to what u are using
How is the project coming on? Did you find an Omega v6 box? Any updates? (hopefully better than my one!!!)
well, after 3 years waiting for things to change, and advances to be made, I became bored of listening to the same lines and lies, ran out of patience (of which i have a great deal of) so decided to pull it out from it's slumber about 3 weeks ago, it was never going to be finished this year next year or the year after,
Turbo has been ditched, as has the Canems ecu set up, now waiting on the royal mail to deliver the bike carbs, megajolt set up, Omega manual prop (with the slider section intact!) and a few other odds and sods, front has been cut and the bonnet is now fitted,
engine and box is back out and just as well as they had welded the gearbox crossmember to the underside, no rubber mounts just solid! looking at about 2 months for this to be finished, photo's to follow next week.
chuffed to bits with the Bonnet mods!
Good to see you back on it, looks like you've some work on your hands. Should be nicer to drive on carbs instead of being turbo

gearbox tunnel will need to be played with a tad more, but liking the platform and 'skirt' with the bias bottles!

I was bored going to shows and looking at all the Fords with their bonnets up, all looking the same (the bonnets that is!), the only difference was one that opened from the side with the hydraulic arm (similar to that of a modern day boot stay)so i gave it some thought, and forgot about it, later i thought again, and decided that it's not a popular mod on a Ford, so why not? I was going to have the removable bonnet with pins, but again, done to death, obviously there are not a lot of options all round, but this idea seems to be the least favoured? so why not? and it works! But, the front grille will need to be adjusted, but obviously i am not looking for a pristine model, so as long as it all fits, works, and stays together... I'm happy.

looking for the pipe attachment for the fuel line on the standard redtop manifold if anyone can help?
also need a good anti tramp kit for the Atlas. Boot area has been welded, wheel wells should stay dry this time!
Handbrake works well, tunnel looks good, next up is the exhaust manifold, piping on it's way along with 15ft of braided fuel hose.
Had to modify the pedals in the bias box kit, cheap and nasty metal, angles were a joke! anti tramp kit on it's way, i think this might be on the road within 2 months max, failing that, i will drive the transporter around with this on the back!

I done a deal with a guy from Weston-supermare who deals in suspension kits etc, he bought a beaten up mk2 off me and we done an exchange of cash and goods, the cash worked well!
The pedal box had to have the middle bars cut off and a couple of box sections from a table added!
I now have all the hoses and fuel lines, looking for a throttle cable and a cambelt cover. Finally found some rear seats in vinyl, been looking/asking for a few years !!!

Thanks to propshaft services and a quick turnaround within 24 hours, the rear prop has been sorted, just the exhaust system and ecu to sort out and I think it's almost there?

Made a silly mistake, so all has been put back a bit, ordered the wrong ecu! so in the meantime, gearbox tunnel has been tidied, engine bay next, then move the hydraulic pipe from the top of the gearbox to the side so as to give easier access/flow to the reservoir.
no more cutting required for the tunnel.

time to tidy the engine bay....I suppose? the rest of the car is remaining as it is...... DIRTY !
