    12mm Wheel Studs from Burtons

Hi all you guru's out there, answer me this if you can, i have bought new 12mm studs to replace the imperial ones that were standard on my rear axle (english) they were a tight fit which i feel is good but when i came to bolt the wheel on the nuts snagged the shank leading upto the thread and would not tighten unless i used a spacer to build the gap. what can i do to overcome this? I told Burtons what my plans were and there was no advice that this problem would occur. Can anyone suggest a cure please?

you could try a spacer shim.. say 3mm... or go for Mondeo wheel studs from the local ford dealer

Cheers Gary, the problem is the shank protrudes through the backplate/hub and the nut shoulders hit the shank b4 they tighten!! so u think that sierra ones may fit? are they going to fit through the backplate/hub
    cheers

    • washer between stud and backside of hub
    • spacer plate between hub and wheel
    • make more thread in stud
    • drill wheel nut for bigger opening (make sure there is enough threads remaining)

spacer plates are probably cheapest option.

Halfords sell them for about a tenner

I had revolutions and needed the sleeve nuts to go on properly so increased the thread. Its nice Burtons don't tell you they are different when you ask for replacement studs!

I said Mondeo... not Sierra. :p

The other alternative is to do a rear disc conversionpopcorn:

Re: 12mm Wheel Studs from Burtons

Gary sorry i should have read ya reply better, thanks to everyone and its nice to know its not me thats f*cked something up as i was getting a little paranoid!!!
its a long job to pull the 1/2 shafts out and redo the threads and using spacers will cock up the wheel/arch gaps so was considering opening the nut just a lil to drop it past the shank? will this work? any ideas? would like to be able to afford rear disc conversion but at this point in the rebuild its not practical, will be a later mod though
    cheers

the minimum thread i would allow is 1.5 x the diameter... so 18mm.. not a problem if your using comp studs as they are close to 2" long.

How much thread would you have inside the nut if you took out the thread to clear the shank?
