Well that's about it then getting rid of the dreaded cancer rust is. just waiting for a new offside front wing. unfortunately these are on back order and will be a few weeks yet, not to worry though plenty more to do.

Next task is to trial fit the engine and see if I can build an inner front panel to suit the supercharger intercooler.
so for the moment its a good clean up in the garage and get the engine out of the shrink wrapping.

A nice project you have going on there, a good choice on the zetec engine I used one in a 105e on bike carbs which was a very successful , I will keep an eye on your progress.

Cracking build so far.....and you're not hanging about either!! It's taken me 3ish years of weekends to replace almost every replaceable panel so we're almost ready for paint, then fit zetec and type 9 and everything else. Looking foward to more of your progress

cheers guys, starting the build was a long time coming but once I started I needed to keep going, although at the moment I am just waiting for some hardware.
I,m hoping the new throttle body and supercharger will arrive later this week then I can really crack on,

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

Brakes are on my project as I'm still waiting for some hardware ie supercharger and Intercooler. Fortunately the throttle body kit did arrive so I was able to do a trial fit. This was my biggest worry as the measurements looked very tight. thank goodness the Jenvey kit is multi directional . I managed to bring the inlet out underneath . The trial fit is looking good hopefully the fabrications will be limited to the inner front panel ,

Supercharged Zetec, now that's a bit different! By the way, those cupboards are too posh for a garage!

Aye with the supercharger hopefully about 400bhp when finished . its amazing what a bit of carbon body wrap can do to some aging units isn't it

long awaited parts have begun to arrive. Supercharger is here now, also Rad/intercooler so hopefully after the easter weekend it should be all systems go rebuilding the front panel around the intercooler

Got to fit the front bubbles soon. Just managed to get the drivers side wing after waiting 3 months, it's a bummer to cut up brand new mexico wings though.

Trial fit of the Rad / intercooler complete, its a nice neat fit and the intercooler inlet and outlet pipework is perfect, keeping everything compact. only issue now is I need to find a suitable home for 2off oil coolers one for the supercharger and one for the engine oil but that can be done once the panelling is complete.

Thanks for the comments guys. Time to strip it all out now and complete the fabrication and panel work before moving onto the rear end and axle link box installation.

Nice build, doing the same ATM with my old Mexico, I'm not supercharging it (yet). I notice you've fitted the Raceline thermostat water rail, does it fit ok without fouling the bulkhead or have you moved your engine mounts.

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

yes the photo does show a raceline water rail but although better looking than the Retro Ford version the fit was not too good when used with the BDA rocker cover so I opted for the Retro Ford version

It did clear the bulkhead but I used the Retro Ford engine mounts which does move the engine slightly forward

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

Thanks for that bit of info, I too have bought the cover so its the retro ford water rail then, pity because the rad cap on the thermo housing looks more in keeping with a BDA. I've just had my wings arrive too, your right, cutting brand new Mex wings is going to be a shame but standard ones are just not available, or if they are the same price, will you be adding the bubble arch after you've fitted the wing or before?

I will be fitting my front arches once the wings are fitted, I would think the rigidity is needed to get it right . Hopefully a job for later in the week.

Just as I thought I was making good progress. as above engine trial fitted front panels rad/intercooler panels fitted and all the parts ordered mid April to do the axle and link arm mod s well as o new gearbox These were on a 2 to 3 weeks delivery max.
Need to give myself a shake and get back to the real world 9 1/2 weeks later they have eventually arrived. I can eventually get on and progress more, unfortunately now my plans for a 2016 completion is blown out of the water.

Just to add i have had panels from expressed and are always a good fit and i think the price reflects this. Magnum panels now also have a very good selection now and their inner wings seem to get very good reviews. i only had inner wingtops from expressed for the escort.

Hi guys. Sorry it's been a long time since July last year but we have had family illness , berrievement. Topped off with me having a total knee replacement but hey ho time to start again. This is the main item on my bucket list so I am determined to complete the task in hand.
So work has restated with both engine and fabrication work

The engine has been shipped down to TTS performance at Silverstone for work to the bottom end which should see the engine performing at around 400bhp. unfortunately once again they are waiting for parts.

The fabrication ongoing is to include the 15" tubs, round turrets. watts linkage , firewall etc at the rear end. so we will see how it goes

Cracking work, well done! Mk1 + 400hp should be a lot of fun.
Could you share the specs on the supercharger please?
Also the tidy radiator/intercooler setup - is that an Aussie Desert cooler setup?

    Thanks

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

Thanks guys, Donnie the supercharger I am using is a ROTREX high boost C30-94 kit available from TTS Performance in the UK. Obviously there is other engine work required so my engine is currently down at TTS getting this work carried out. My plan is to get the engine dyno tested before fitting to the car so i'll see what we have then.
As for the Rad and intercooler this was supplied by the guys at Radtech . The Rad was off the shelf but the intercooler was custom made so the inlet and outlet were at the same end cutting down the need for lots of pipework. The tapers on the header are to give me a bit more room to pass the air intake to the supercharger. Again i'll have to see how this all comes together later.
I am still targeting this year . Fingers crossed just have to see how it goes.

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

With all the back end done its time move forward, a rotten drivers door is the next task.

After having a bad ebay buy on the passenger door( New old stock) NOT !!!! I decided to repair this one, it was rotten on both of the bottom corners and the bottom flange was missing totally

I decided rather than patching I would replace the inner lower section of the
door with a panel that was supplied by Expressed panels. which turned out to be
    another quality good fitting panel.

Then finished off with a new outer skin. certainly worth the effort
