Yes i used the black resin for the reason you say, the weave is quite loose so you can see through it . If you look at the easy composite Web site there are some good videos, the only bit to watch out for is taking it easy with the weave as its very loose

Just another mod found nessesary during the final fit. This was one of the hazards faced by leaving the restoration till my retirement and following knee replacement. I was finding it uncomfortable to climb in and out over the door bars. So the door bars had to be made removable, just some photos below of the work.

    Love the build...

Is it removable for every day use...ie .you wont have it there..and just fixed in for circuit...cheers mark

    Thanks Mark,
Yes that's the plan just to make it a bit more usable. I also installed a quick release hub for the steering wheel with the 2 mods it's certainly improved accessibility.

Still a few adjustment to be done to get the axle set up right. Ive just made it mobile so save damaging the underside paintwork

Time to rebuild it Very pleased with the paint job I think I'm going to have to cover it in bubble wrap before I work on it
    Dare not touch it

    Wow!! Excellent

I agree I would be absolutely bricking it when comes to fitting out the rest of the car and worrying about scratching the paint.

Been a bit slow this week but eventually got the brake pipes in and started on the front loom, the Biode in the photo were part of the original custom pack and super Oscars are from the 75 car. The smaller Oscars re courtesy of eBay just to complete the set, I hope to get the front loom completed this week then hopefully I will remove the spots and get the engine fitted by the end of next week

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

eventually got the front wing vents fitted this was the route i took

first of all I marked the approx. position of the vent onto one of the old wings that was removed from the car

after lots of ideas how to fasten them in it was decided to buy two front wings from an s-max , cut away the fixing area and graft them onto the new arch

After a couple of aborted attempts to wrap them with real carbon I decided to have the vents dipped and they came out great.

Re: 1972 AVO Mexico coming back from near death experience

Well back again, I have had a bit of a delay and lost total faith in humanity. If you go back to my first post in which I had to choose which direction to take the build, either original or fast road track. Well it now looks like I chose the wrong direction as I am really struggling to get a new logbook from DVLA. After sending in my original log book 6 months ago with no personal details changed since 1975 including my address it looks like Dvla have doubts it's my original car. Last contact was that it has to be verified as a type 49 shell by the RS owners club who to be honest have not been very helpful so far.
Still as I am not planning to sell it I will just have to refocus my mind and get it finished so I can look at it and polish it.

Anyway the new wiring looms are complete and im on with connecting the ecu wiring to the data logger, the engine is just ready for the oils.

So close now, if your like me, I'm actually nervous that my build is coming to an end, 9 years is a long time......

Whats up with the DVLA, why did you send your log book in?

I had to send my original V5 in to apply for a new one. As the car went off the road prior to them going digital they said they had no record of it on the system.
I did contact them when SORN came in but at the time they did say , no need to SORN IT just re apply when complete, but rules have changed again.

The car cannot be verified until totally complete and by clubs who in the main are purists which may be a proble . My old motor is an original type 49 mex that i have brought back from the brink but how the heck can i prove it,

Nice one, some fine engineering here and I like the little modern touches of carbon, I'm thinking of bringing some of that to my MkII project. Enjoy

    Finished object

well that it just about finished now. its been a while coming but eventually got there, I just have to have it remapped to get the most out of it, Other than that its a couple of months admiring and polishing then break another container open to dig out this winters project.

Originally bought the car in 1975 as sebring red but my wife hated red cars so painted it white

1977 I decided to have a change so painted it oyster gold

August 2018 finally finished only 40yrs later just waiting for the final remap to get the most out of it

couple of months off now just then time to get container no 2 open to start the next project

Did you have any luck with DVLA over this?

I had to take a Truck and trailer into an ATF for testing at work today and was chatting to the DVSA guy about this sort of thing. He was saying that once a vehicle has been heavily modified from standard it should never be able to keep it's original registration, and it should always have to go through IVA..

I still disagree with the whole thing though.
