as i was now on my 3rd coilpack failure,dont know why but they dont last long even using original beru version, i decided to see how easy it would be to fit coil on plug to eliminate the misfires and bring it more up to date,every modern high performance petrol engine runs these now.
clint on here does a nifty conversion with extended plug tops so you can run denso motorbike cops and use the insulator with the rubber extended,without the need for cam cover mods works great, but the plugs needed for these cops have to be threaded and that leaves fords 071c as the only plug suitable
now these plugs are utter shite you have to buy about 16 to get 4 that will actually work,when you take the duds back to the ford dealer and other suppliers[surly they all cant be duds] they will tell you that you fitted them wrongyeah i managed to put them in upside down just as well there cheap
with the cop conversion working great it was just the plugs that let it down,so much so that i refitted a new coilpack and a set of these ngk iridiums, now these are the danglies,seems to run better straight away
now works perfectly but only a matter of time before the coilpack fecks up again so i thought i will get the ngk with threaded tops and refit the copsshould be the best of both worlds, only thing is these ngk are not available in 16mm plug with threaded top to fit a yb,phone call to ngk technical and the helpfull chappie said the one im looking for size wise and threaded top is only avaliable in 21mm
so bought a set and decided to make them fit
as its boxing day and im bored, whipped the cam cover off and up to geordies to use his milling machine,took 6mm off the plug towers and machined the plug hole out to 26mm
also machined down a 21mm plug socket to 25.5mm so it will go through the plug hole
the head where the plug sits also needs a bit machined from it to square up the sides as most heads are not equal in this area,a 21mm plug is a lot bigger diameter and will leave no room to get a plug socket in,thankfully i had done it to this head when i modified it.
the brass extenders are now no longer needed with the cam cover modified, and the cops can fit direct to the ngk plug with the insulator fully home.
now wired up and ready for the rolling road setup session
