    Rear disc conversion kits.

    Complete kit to convert your ATLAS axle to disc brakes, including the following;

Pair - NEW 2wd Cossie/Granada/Sierra 4x4 handbrake type rear calipers
Pair - NEW Solid discs to suit
    Pair - Steel mounting brackets
Pair - Bearing spacer plates (fills the gap where the drum backplate used to be)
    Set - Brake pads
    Set - mounting bolts.
    And some fitting instructions.

Turbosport members price: £225 (inc VAT) + P&P

    NOTES:
    • These calipers have the mechanical handbrake facility which is required by law for road cars...
    • The kit does NOT include handbrake cable itself - as the type required depends on the vehicle being fitted to. We can advise on the right cable - but usually a Sierra or MK5 RS2000 cable does the job.
    • The mounting brackets are the WELD-ON type. You will notice they have bolt holes - but these are for alignment/spacing purposes only - basically to get the bracket in the right place before welding. The vehicle must NOT be used with the brackets only bolted on.
    • The kit can be used in conjunction with 6x13" RS type alloys (picture below shows this) but I must warn you that it is a fairly close fit....
    • You MAY require longer wheel studs when using rear discs.
HALFSHAFTS - In order to allow the disc to fit over the halfshaft flange, the OD of the halfshaft has to be machined down a couple of mm. If you have access to a lathe, this is a 30second job.... Otherwise send your shafts to me and i'll do it Free of Charge, then send the shafts back with the kit.

ALL PARTS AVAILABLE SEPERATELY - CALL FOR DETAILS.

I think that's everything. Any questions just give me a shout.

The kit will soon be available to fit the ENGLISH axle... Watch this space.

***WILL POST PICTURES UP TOMORROW - HAVING CAMERA TROUBLE!

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

I honestly don't know, as i've never had anything to do with those axles. If you could get me some drawings/pictures/dimensions on the various parts - i.e the bearing carrier on the end of tubes, haflshafts etc then i'll see what i can do, but failing that i would need to see the axle i'm afraid.

"Nothing a bit of time and money won't sort out" as they say.

    certainly.

    Have you got mounting cradles?

Basically, you'd need discs, mounting brackets and bearing spacer plates, then?

Drop me a PM with exactly what you need, and i'll magic something up

i have now sent off for my kit, can anyone recommend the correct / easiest handbrake cable to fit - i want to retain the cable operation and do not really want to go messing about cutting cables and re joining them etc.My kit is for the english axle and application is RS2000 mk 2

Use a Mk5 RS2000 cable, You'll need to fit another cable stop opposite the otherside and make up a bridging bar like this............

No, the kit uses modified Escort mk3 front discs. Cossie rear discs would be too big diameter. This kit is designed specifically to fit under 13" rims to should be OK with superlites.

    Hi There

Interested in getting some of the parts you have on offer as below.

    Pair - Steel mounting brackets
Pair - Bearing spacer plates (fills the gap where the drum backplate used to be)
    Set - mounting bolts.
    And some fitting instructions.

Please can you let me know a price for the above.

    Many thanks

can you use 4x4/cossie discs (a la caprisport) with your system to avoid machining half shafts? (got 17" wheels so should fit ok within wheel).

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

If those discs you mention are anything other than 235mm diameter, then no, my brackets would not mount the caliper in the correct place. I seem to remember the cossie rear disc is more like 270mm, in which case I'd have to make up some different brackets.... A bit uneconomical on 1-offs.

It'd certainly be cheaper, simpler and quicker to just turn the 1/2shafts down!

Do you do rear disc kits for a mk1 fiesta mate?

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

YODI - The short answer is 'no'. I have never seen the setup on the back of a fiesta, so I wouldn't know where to start. Nothing a bit of time and money wouldn't fix, I'm sure, but the sensible option would be to find someone who's done it already

Having said that, are you sure you want brakes that powerful on the back of a Fiesta?

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

yodi, why do you want rear dics?

most racers i know have to go to lengths to REDUCE rear brake effort, and i'm afraid just because you have a bias pedal box it may not be as simple as adjusting the bias, you may need to change master cylinder sizes or fit an additional bias valve

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

RS Turbos are a nightmare with Rear disks fitted, if you do do it use some small disks and not cossie ones, of course with disks maintenance is easier and it looks cool if you paint the caliper RED.

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

    yes.

i did 6 years of racing on a car with rear drums and never a problem, likewise i know of lots of very fast racing fiestas and escorts that still use rear drums. i dont if it it still happens but it one time it wasn't unusual for racers to grease the rear brake linings! anther friend of mine had to remove half the linings the shoes from his rear brakes to stop the car locking up the rear under race conditions

the thing is the faster you go the harder you stop and the more weight transfer you have to the front the LESS effort you need at the rear brakes

IMHO the only benifits of rear discs is that they run cooler, overheating is normally only an issue under extreme use such as race or rallying where the handbrake has to do lots of work.
and because they are self adjusting they are pretty maintainace free and tend to give a more constistance pedal feel, but seeing as he feel only changes with shoe wear its not normally an issue other than extreme usage such as on the back of a rally car

fit the bias pedal box, its one of the biggest single improvemnts you can make to give proper feel to the pedal, it should also save you some weight and give you more room in the engine bay which i dare say you will find usefull

    Cheers Gary.

Only got a couple of these kits left, and if you're quick - you'll beat the VAT

    Hi Fossie,
Would you sell me a set of Calipers and pads ?

The rest is pretty surplus to me as I will be fitting to a Piazza rear Axle with some of Gary`s weld on Brackets

    Cheers
    Dom

    Re: Rear disc conversion kits.

Dom - have you got a 2nd hand pair as exchange units, or are you talking about "outright" sale? The answer is yes, either way, but obviously it makes a difference to the price. We'd prefer to sell them complete with mounting cradles and new sliders - which at first glance WILL look expensive, but you need to decide whether you can be bothered getting a 2nd hand pair from the scrappy, blasting the cradles, posting them to me etc etc.... Normally, recon calipers don't come with cradles, and definitely not with new sliders.

let me know what you'd prefer anyway, and i'll give you a price.

remember, these are AMK reconditioned units too - which tend to be a bit more expensive than some of the other reconditioners. Personally I think they are best though, they look nicer quality than new Ford units to be honest!

check out the prices in the Burton catalogue, then PM me for a price
