    Supercharged Zetec in Mk1 Mex

I Guys I am currently at a stage in my mexico rebuild where I have got to think about engines. My intentions are to fit a Rotrax supercharged 2Ltr Zetec I want it to breath via a single 70mm Jenvey throttle body and plenum imtercooler etc. I was just wondering if anybody has done this and if there is room available.

I have checked the dimensions on the plenum . looks tight but should be ok. its the plumbing I'm a bit worried about.

    Any advice on this one

cant help much, but 70mm throttle body sound rather large for forced induction

Do a search on locostbuilders for JeffW, he has a rotrex zetec pushing out 400hp in a Phoenix kit car, that will show you what is available. Lost of youtube videos of him as well, Goodwood and Brighton speed trials are pretty good watch.

I'd be careful using the Jenvey plenum chamber as its been documented a few times that it's not up the job with forced induction.

Clearly not up to the job but then again it has clearly not been designed to do the job! Any two part plenum without a mechanical seal isn't designed for boost......thicker material may withstand pressure better but it'll leak boost.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I was surprised to see a Jenvey turbo plenum fail like this. You say it was not designed for boost, but I think that Jenvey sell this as a 'Tubo plenum'. That's what they call it on their website. Also, what is a mechanical seal? (Sorry if I'm being a bit thick).

I heard that Jenvey re-designed their plenum last year - I wonder if this was the reason why!

Mechanical as in physical ie. 'o' ring. A friend produces some beautiful billet cnc'd plenums for bike installs. They are split horizontally and a simple addition of 2mm dia o ring 'rope' in a groove enables them to hold over +50psi boost allowing over 950hp....... out of a 1600cc bike engine! Welded one piece fabricated plenums failed at much lower boost levels.
