Whats causing concern? Bars are parallel and set up looks like the manual?

    hi thanks for your reply.
bars are parallel but i thought that the bracket which is in the sleeve of the diff housing is to be vertical (as in holes have to be in the same centre of each other at 90degrees?. my head says this isnt going to work well because something must be installed wrongly.. and i cannot figure out what.

Well, your bracket on the axle is upside down (you want the longer cut-out at the top for clearance on the top bar)...but other than that you're fine.

Not sure you can get them upside down due to the required geometry! Agree with the rose joint slots - maybe poorly made but easily adjusted with a grinder!

They're upside down believe me...I've manufactured 100's of atlas axles and 1000's of the brackets that go on them!!! In true Blue Peter fashion...here's one I made earlier

I thought they weren't symmetrical hence my comment! But not the end of the world to grind a bigger slot and re-plate?

    Hi there.

That reply you've quoted wasn't alluding to your post chief...but one by someone else. Absolutely agree...not a problem to grind away the front plate for clearance....but why go the hassle if it's not welded on yet and possible to remove the link bracket and turn it over?

no, it was aimed at me......

i posted the link because you've told him its wrong, when really it might suit his application to leave it the way it is if he mods the bracket for clearance.

they might be the wrong way if he's building a historic spec gravel mk1 with huge ground clearance. running the brackets the "wrong way" can be better on a car intended for lower ride height.

Whatever you say fella, I have no intention of entering into a debate with you about it...you do your thing and I'll do mine.

I did get a nice PM from the original poster though...thanking me for my help and telling me that he turned the brackets the other way up (the way they were designed to be fitted - whether you think that's correct or not) and that everything was now spot-on now and is all sorted.

    Thank f*ck somebody's happy.....

    hi,
basically the brackets werent welded but just spot welded to see if everything fits before i weld everything.
brackets were upside down. i put them round and everything makes sense now. im building a group 4 escort for hillclimbing. its going to be 3 inches off the ground !
    thank you
