3 wire speed sensor questions? Electronic speedometer.

    Hi,

I am planning on running a VDO electronic speedo on my RS2 rebuild. I have purchased a 3 wire speed sensor and adaptor to drive directly off the type e gearbox.
Sensor wiring is +ve, -negative and signal / pick up.
The VDO speedo has a terminal for sender signal +ve and sender signal -ve
Has anyone got any experience with this kind of stuff that can advise which 2 wires from the sensor I connect to the speedo?

    Cheers,
    Dave.

doubt you can, two wired speedo means it wants analog AC signal from a magnetic pickup, the 3 wire speed sensor is a digital hall effect

Thanks for the reply Graham, thing is VDO state it can be used with a hall effect or inductive pick up. The even sell the 3 wire hall effect sensors but they are all to suit US vehicle fitments. I have emailed VDO direct to ask the question.

yes the sensor needs the earth to operate. you will also need a 12v supply to the sensor +

Thanks, I'll rig it up on the bench first with drill to drive it and see what it does.
