A different view

For the past few months I have bought my classic ford mag, flicked through very briefly, looked at the classified ads and put it down. I have very rarely picked it back up again to have a proper read through.

Again I think it's because it focuses on the TOP and BEST cars, and althought these need to be included each week, there needs to be the cars from the real world too.

However, I'm sure after a few months of reading about standard escorts in people garages that I would get bored with this too.

It's a no-win situation really. Sharons post about not being able to please everyone springs to mind.

Variety is the spice of life - keep it varied - keep it different each week, keep us interested.

I like Jo's idea of running storylines, her getting a car and getting a license, or someone buying a car to do up, would make it like a mini soap opera and would hopefully make people want to come back for the next bit.

I pretty much agree with Steves view.
As I have said before, I do buy and read CF, but not always thoroughly.
One comment is that the tech help is far to brief sometimes. It may say what to do, but gives no indication on how.
For example "Fit an Ashley exhaust"
For anyone who has ever done this, you will know that it is far easier said than done! You know you will need welders, hacksaws and a great deal of imagination.
This is just an example, I know you can't go into the realms of libel, but anyone that has fitted one knows that they don't!

As for Jo taking a test in a Capri, why not make it one with bullet mirrors, 205 tyres and no power steering. Fitted with louvred and tinted windows plus a mental cam and racing clutch.
Imagine trying the 3 point turn.
An emergency stop in a Capri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally I couldn't think of a worse car to take a test in. (and I have got one)
How about challenging an already qualified driver to take a test in any of our modified cars.
They are not the easiest things to drive are they.
Probably more of a TV item than a mag feature, but would be worth watching and quite funny.
It would be hell of a challenge.

Heres my idea:

Most of us have done some pretty MAJOR resto work to our cars over the years yet in the mag it shows only the finish article.

It'd be great to see as part of that article some of the owners pics of the restoration , like as it was before, during welding, paint prep, whatever to highlight what the owner has done. (Im talking 3-4 thumbnail size pics)

This would really show what amount of work goes into getting the cars into the condition they are now.

Just a thought!

i agree, i know its show cars and cossie conversions on the cover that sell mags, but you need some cheapo ones in there too as not all of us can afford to spend 2 grand on a car let alone 20.

maybe a semi regular feature on old fords that get used all the time, plenty of the turbosport regulars have their escort as an only car and just use it all the time. bound to be plenty of funny stories of breakdowns in the middle of the night or comments from other people, i know i couldnt go anywhere in my flamed mk1 without getting smiles and comments all day.

yeah you could have pictures of me scrapping the ice off the outside ,sraping the ice off the inside,scraping the ice of the outside again infinitum.Oh and then dont forget once your going you need to be able to drive with the window open so you can scrape ice as you go Then once I get there I need to de-ice the kids to get them off there seats Let everyone share in the glory that is Old School daily drivers
