    A small job I hope.

Peeps I had some bubbles on my skuttle panel on my Mk2 ,not rusted just where the paint had come away from the old paint and I touched it up but it looks a mess to be honest.
So I want to sand it and paint it.I have used cellulose in the past but I know the car was painted in 2k.
I am just looking for some tips on how you mix it and stuff.
The car is not concourse but it's tidy and also where it is I can mask it off very well.
I have a spray gun and a compressor lol.
    Cheers Chris.

first of 2K is poisonous professional painters wear air feed masks so as not to inhale the stuff, at the very very least wear a good quality respirator and paint in a very well ventalated area.

you will need paint hardener and thinner, the mixing ratios are stated on the products and are quite clear, you can get graduated beakers or stiring sticks which make it easy to gauge.

k is much thicker then celli, it covers much much better, but it doesnt flash off quickly, if you paint the same way as before you will get BIG BIG runs, also the overspary wont dry in the air so cover EVERYTHING you dont want overspray stuck to, as yo cant just wipe if off.

plus point is you dont need much, it covers really well, ideally its intended to be left straight out the gun, ie not flatted and polished afterwards, if you do need to flat and polish to get rid of orange peel, runs specs of dirt etc, so so as soon as its gone off, leave it a week or two and it will be hard as nails. dont forget to get you gun really clean afterwards, mix up only as much as you need, as you cant leave it sitting in the paint gun it will set

    Hi Graham.
    Hope you are ok.
Thanks for the tips. The car was painted in my garage 12 years ago so I can remember the fumes lol .The guy never wore a mask and everything in my garage was terracotta.
I might put up a few picks of this little job.
    Cheers

i tried a cheap gravity HVLP gun, thinking it would put a lot less paint into the air, but i couldnt get on with it it laid on far too much paint, and i either got massive runs, or got the paint on too dry

I thought it contained Cyanide - it doesn't just slightly less toxic things - injure rather than kill type stuff LOL!

Well its turning out to be a bigger job lol.
I have been prepping with aerosol, filler primer and cellulose stopper.
Going to get the 2 k primer and top coat at the weekend .
How long do you usually leave it betwen coats using 2k.

Wait 5 to 10 mins flash time between coats but it does depend on ambient temp and the speed of the activator

Right I sprayed the car on Saturday and I had a reaction. Not the usual crows feet but like dots as if the paint is lifting away.
So I flattened it back repainted it again and it still did it but not as bad.I have been using spray wipes before painting.
    Cheers.

Managed to flat it off again and put a couple of coats on and it's not to bad now.
Goodness me I forgot how toxic 2k is.
