Thumbs down so apparently a car that is aged 1974 isnt a classic

absolutely gutted today the organisers who run 4 of the steam and vintage rally events i was planning on going with my car have said they don't accept cars after 1972 as she put it "its too young and is not considered a classic as it isnt tax exempt" i then persisted to explain it now bumps up every year as soon as a car turns 40 its considered a classic. she was having non of it and said its tough. ive litterly worked so hard to get this car done for these shows and the section steward turns around and says that. posting this rant to see what other peoples opinions are on this ? when is a car truly considered a classic officially.

Also dose anyone know of any shows within a 2 hour radius of stoke or any big weekend shows that are worth the drive to go too. so talking manchester, warrington, leeds, shrewsburry, crewe, ect ect im new to classic shows so any big ones i can get in as an exhibitor with would be fantastic.
    regards Adam

there is no offical date when a car becomes a classic, its whatever the organisers deterimed it to be. in most peoples eyes a 40 year old car would be called a classic, but if you look at the age of an escort compared to a traction engine which could be 100 years or more old, or vehicles from the war time era an escort is positively modern!

ive just bought a business which specialisis in old rovers, the newest they deal with are P6 rovers from late sixties through to mid seventies, parked up alongside P4 rovers from the 50's the P6 doesnt look like a classic, but to most it is.

i assume you didnt actually do you car up just to attend one show, so just enjoy the fruits of your labours and get out and use it, this show might even be a disspointment, but it sounds like its almost done you a favour, you have a car ready for use at the very start of the summer season, a much better position than chasing around trying to get ready for the last show of the year

Jobs worth, shouldn't be in the scene with an attitude like that, bring your pride and joy to North Wales, we love anything with an MOT

Adam, there is also AVO National Day at Hatton near Warwick on Fathers Day in June. We have several visiting Clubs come along to that and I would suggest perhaps joining the Rallye Sport Escorts mob, or NW Classic Fords and we do have an area for visiting Classics, your car being the same age as the AVO models, you would be welcomed.

I do find the organisers of these type of events a special breed of power addicts. For example, banning a club for moving its vehicles from the display area to the camping area over night because the display area wasn't secure.

We visited this show last year and can thoroughly recommend
Far from the stuffy anal avo type attitudes I expected lol
A really informal and enjoyable event.
