Will a Sierra cosworth axle.fit fit my mk2 escort
Hi Guys
I'm out in Dubai working and very board so brought the only mk2 escort 1600 sport in the country in fact it's the only mk2 here and incredibly it's RHD and in very good condition. However I want to do some mods. It already has a 2.1 pinto and I'm looking to convert rear brakes to disc. I have found a Sierra cosworth complete rear axle. Would this do the job ?also I want to do something to gain more power and was considering a turbo.
Would love to have some comments and helpful information please. What ever I buy in parts I need to make sure I buy the right parts as shipping to Dubai from UK is expensive.
Look forward to your replys
Thanks Tony

Hi Tony.
It can be made to fit. But would require a lot of chassis modifying. Welding. Brackets . The list goes on and on. Mike

Re: Will a Sierra cosworth axle.fit fit my mk2 escort
its a total re-enginerring of the back end of the car, and its not that good anyway, the fastest sierras have heavily modified rear ends anyway, so its a massive amount of work to fit something that isnt really any better than a live axle

just use the brakes callipers with the relevant mounting brackets etc loads of kits and info around to do this. Escorts can be made to handle extremely well as they are better off spending your money on well proven escort handling components.

I get the jist that brakes are the thing to be changed - the Cossie axle is just a donor........badly worded title I'm guessing!

For brakes the calipers are spot on but depending what size wheels your running then the discs will be too big. Its very hard to fit a 273mm disc under 13's, 14's can just about squeeze under and 15's are okay. I'm using 2wd cossie rear calipers and mk3/4 front solid discs on my escort and this works pretty well with 13 inch minilites.
The escort solid discs have a deeper bell then the fiesta ones, so this moves the caliper bracket further back and away from the oil seal on the axle. This is less likely to cause leaks when you weld the caliper bracket on.

You'll need a different handbrake cable as the sierra one will be too long. I believe mk6 escort cable is the one to go for but there's plenty sold on ebay specifically for this.
Throw all that together with some decent pads and your laughing

I bought an Atlas rear disc conversion thicker tubes, calipers, LSD, double pinned, etc etc perfect for the mk2 Escort, £2,400 bolt in and go!
