I'll keep my eye on him
New one's fitted now
Be good to see you again Aled if your not working mate
How many cars are going...I have a new camera to test...
Russ.
i might come and watch this....
Fair play to you lads if your going to travel that sort of distance
Think there's at least 10-12 old Fords, a few beemers, lots of golfs & pugs as well. It was only £75 so I'm expecting a full field of cars but by all accounts there's very little queing at Oulton so should be good.
nah, we aint
didnt realise it was that far away
jon reckons the weather is fooking mental up there and has nearly thrown the car off the black stuff twice
good lad
I went along in the Big Wing...
Yes it was wet...
Nice to meet Jon with his Capri...met Mr Phill
Saw Dave and met Ali.....then had a great blast home on A and B roads...
Russ.
Good to see you Russ (and Jon of course), and fair play for fetching the car out in that crap weather. I didn't want to go in my Escort and it's only a few miles for me.
I was surprised how many cars were there, a good turnout I thought.
One thing I was amazed at...that speed by so many cars on Toyo's etc..I have a set that I thought were only good for sunny days..
Russ.
Except me
It really was treachorous out there, and if I'm honest I can say that I did'nt really enjoy the morning laps very much. It did stop raining after lunch and started to dry out but part of the circuit where the tree's are was like glass
The only casualty amongst our lot was "Black Betty" a xflow powered mk1 escort estate, Andy the owner was getting it very sideways......lots and ended up pushing his luck a bit too far. Ended up broadside down a tyre wall (I think as I did'nt see it) few little dents, nothing that wont fettle out but hes hundreds of long deep scratch's all down the one side.
Lots of cars ended up in the kitty litter/grass and one Scoobie ended up in the tyre wall but fortunately nothing too serious.
Ive got quite a few pics of mine which I'll stick up in a bit
I mean no offense to the driver of the black estate, but it was very predictable what the outcome was going to be. I was stood watching at Knickerbrook, and to be honest he was all over the place. More drift racing than trackdaying.
The third time he came past I thought he did quite well to catch it, but then it went completely tits up and he slammed sideways into the tyrewall, facing the wrong way.
I don't know if he saw it, but the marshall black flagged him at that point.
I'm sorry he knocked his car about, but I reckon it was just as likely he was going to spin and be involved with another car if that hadn't have happened. There was a lot of traffic around him.
Should have left the drifting to the Reading boys
Here's a few of the pics from the resident snapper of mine.
Personally the only thing that held my car back was me, I was'nt good enough for the conditions for most of the day, and I know that. I noticed that when other machinery went past either coming up to a bend or shortly after it they could'nt pull away till we got near the next bend(s) where I had to back off a lot earlier.
Regardless of any of that, I drove there in it and drove it home and was very happy with the car itself although I would have preferred it dry so I could have had more of a play with the suspension settings. Was only my 2nd ever track day so am still on a learning curve.
new rims?? suits you suir! they look the nuts. Any more pics of them?
Looks fooking wet! i did a day @ Brands last december and it was just like that. proper slippery.
I think you did okay Jon...
I would not have taken my car on the track in that weather...I messed about up the A49 and the A458...
Russ.
Nice to see marks old rims finally put to good use
Looks like your car was more like a boat in that weather! sod that for a trackday
looks a crack there jon and the pictures are fantastic.i love wet trackdays
bollocks would have fooking gone to that had i seen it in time...is my local track and just got the m3 sorted out as well (300bhp)....parajon where abouts in manchester are you? i'm stockport and interested in any meets about town to do with fords or otherwise and deffo up for any trackdays at oulton whatever the weather.loved the shots of your cossie capri, had a mk2 2.0s for me first car 21 years ago! regards andy.

I was out on track in my clio that day. It was very wet in the morning! My mate was there in his white BMW 535 as well. He got stuck in the gravel at Shell first time out in the morning! Too fast and too late on the brakes I think was his reply!
Did anyone get any pics of my clio, silver X reg one with marshals stickers all over the windows.
Have a look on MSV website, there are some cheap trackdays next year from jan til march on various MSV circuits. Saw one at Oulton in feb starting at only £69, open pit lane!
www.motorsportvision.co.uk
Also check out www.focusedevents.com they run some very cheap days as well. It was a focusedevents track day on the 18th nov. They start off really cheap when they first advertise the days, then as the date gets closer the price goes up to encourage people to book early. They also run a loyalty card scheme for those who do a lot of track days. book 9 days and get 10th free.
Didn't realise you were there Mark. Didn't see you.
Yea its not like him to get himself in trouble in the BMW,I've been out with him and he is a good driver.
Unlike the muppet in the black escort estate, he was lucky not to get barred from the circuit. Some of his driving was just sheer lunacy. Drifting in the paddock definitely not a clever thing to do! Of all the track days I've done that day seemed to be one of the worst for bad driving from more than just a few people.
I lost count of the number of times I was overtaken after a red flag was shown to end a session for safety reasons. A silver 911 passed me and at least 3 other cars at full speed while everyone else was slowing down. Even after the chequered flag came out at the end of the day I had cars flying past me at full speed around the back of the circuit. They had all passed the flag on the previous lap. Whats wrong with these people??
