    ARB and compression struts Q's.

Sorry if I am annoying guys with my questions. I am still researching for my mk1 build. So learning as I go.

I spent the last two hours reading old posts. Really start to get lost in technical stuff

I was considering compression struts with drop link kit. So far I have read that compression struts are only used in rallying for strength?

Also on a lowered car compression struts induce dive under braking. (this car wont be lowered much, if it atall, Im weird Im not gone on slamming cars)

Some increase spring rates and use no ARB atall. (not really an option for me, its mainly a road car, do not want serious spring rates!)

Compression struts will allow adjustment of the caster.

The alternative to this is a twin cam anti roll bar with anti-dive. I had a quick look and saw twin cam ARB's for £105..Thats alot consider another £50 odd for the anti dive.

My reasoning for compression struts its for similar money I can have alot more trick looking set up(Yes thats posing I know, but I like my trickery within reason). Would compresion strut set up with drop links be as good as the twin cam arb and anti dive?

Is there any alternatives? Or anyone recommend a deacent front set-up.

Oh also how do you tell a twink arb from a standard?

She will be mainly for road use.

Maybe and anti dive with the standard arb be good enough?

But I will prob be fitting bubble arched fibreglass wings and im assuming that these would be positioned for a twin cam arb? Im told that in the mexico's arches are further up in the wing as the arb moves the wheel forward.

Re: ARB and compression struts Q's.

handlingwise for road use i would not go as far as compression struts, an anti dive and uprated springs should be good enough although a twincam rollbar would be better still

i spent hours reading about all the pros/cons of comp struts and tension struts too. Mine's a road car and after all was ssiad and done I concluded that the best set up for a road car (with the odd bit of track action) would be standard ARB with an anti-dive kit.

On a std road car with std power a anti-dive kit does give understeer at least in my experience.
    Maybe I did something wrong.

Re: ARB and compression struts Q's.

i've had compression struts fitted to my mk1

i have an option of a standard front arb or one with the anti dive, would i be able to use either if i bought the additional drop link kit?

is it worth it? its a road car

the rear arb has gone due to the anti-tramps and panhard being fitted.

Re: ARB and compression struts Q's.

You'll need to buy an ARB specifically designed to use with drop links on a MK1, the standard one won't fit win comp struts.

Also anti dive geometry is more to do with how the bar is mounted than the bar itself.

Re: ARB and compression struts Q's.

I understand the dive is related to the travel of the compression strut under braking, once it passes normal to the body it induces dive.

Im very tmepted to try that droplink kit with compression struts. That set up would cost as much as me sourcing a twink arb with anti-dive kit..

    Anyone used that product?

i've not (my car is still a way off seeing the road), but i think i will be

p.s. the kit from rally design is about £15 cheaper than burton, and it looks the same (and probably is)

Tried these on my Mk2 when it was just finished; I wouldn't advise anyone to use them, the things are crap.
(but maybe I did something wrong, again ...)

Price of Rally Design is excl. VAT, Burton's are incl.

    No,use your TCA,s
just weld the U bracket onto the TCA to attach the drop link.
