Nice work Graham, good to see the car with the bigger rims on the front, should go well

no progress as such over the last couple of days as the AA is keeping me very busy, although ebay has turned me up a 4x4 oil drain pipe for the turbo at the princly sum of £2, and i've just ordered one of these jobbies, which will allow the emerald to richen the mixture up and cool things off a bit if the exhaust temp looks like going too high

Re: worlds most powerfull bmw 316?

had to make a spacer so the oil drain pipe would fit the turbo and clear the manifold, still got to remake the actuator bracket, as the turbo orientation is now different, and it now clear that i wont be able to take the short route with the turbo down pipe, it just never going to fit past the steering, suspension and gearbox, so i'm going to have to follow last year up and over route going round the back the cylinderhead and out the n/s of the engine bay.

although before i get that far i've got to figure out a way to tighten one of the turbo to manifold mounting bolts, the one by the intake compressor nearerst to engine is impossible to get to

Can you not split the turbo and then get to it..or will that leave the the turbo's bolts in the same s**t.
(you can tell i dont know about turbo's can you split them?)

Re: worlds most powerfull bmw 316?

looking at it agian whilst remaking the actuator bracket i think if i get some studs and "k" nuts which have small size hex and remove the oil drain i will just about be able to get in there

not too much progress, i've connected most of the wiring loom, made a new bracket for the actuator and fitted the rad and intercooler as well as ordering the bends to make the new down pipe

Re: worlds most powerfull bmw 316?

quick up date, pics to follow, after finishing the exhaust at midnight the day before the rollers, i finally got water in the engine and ran it up, fixed a couple of minior leaks, putting the car on the trailer and promptly knocked the exhaust off again

anyway i made it to the rollers, the result, well ok ish, it didnt break or do anything nasty on the rollers.

i had feared the Yb manifold would cost me a big bunch of power probably around 50bhp, it actually cost me 65bhp and has made the engine much more peaky, but it runs and will do for lydden which isnt a power circuit anyway.
i have a few tricks up my sleeve which might find some of the lost power before brands, but ultimatly i need to rethink the exhaust manifold, but thats going to be a winter project

Well done Graham, watched most of your races (just the ends we missed) and the car was going fantastic.

Great drives, i think you'd better post up your results

Oh and cheers for entertaining us in the paddock with the smoke and firework displays as usual

Re: worlds most powerfull bmw 316?

                          cheers david,

was a great day, finished 2nd and then 1st in class which equated to 5th, and 4th Overall, oh i do like beating class A cars.......................... bring yours on david.............

bigger front wheels and tyres have changed the cars balence its much more oversteery now and most corners a i was using opp lock to catch the rear end although mostly still with my foot in., so maybe the loss of power wasnt a bad thing.

the big power loss really does notice in a straight line so i was pleasently suprised to find i could out drag john cross's V8 eurocar up hill!

i had a titantic battle with john for most of the second race, eventually he got the better of me into devils elbow, which is my cars weakest corner as i have very poor traction out of it, but caught him going up the hill, to turn in earlier and cut inside him at north turn, and get a good run on him down hairy hill, and get the inside line at paddock, unfortunatly i just couldnt hold as tighter line as i needed and we did a bit of wheel to wheel rubbing and i didnt quite make it past him so i now have some bodywork to do and need a new outer rim for the rear wheel.

it would of been one hell of a move if it had stuck, but i'm pleased i had the confidence in the car to try it, rather than just let him go as i could of easily done as teh class win was in the bag, but hell we were racing.

some battle damage pics to follow soon when my cameras batteries are charged

Was a gutsy move, Graham. I never thought I'd see both cars come out of the corner, indeed at one point John must have run very wide and disappeared from view (across the gravel a bit?) an we thought oh percy: . Still not sure how he made it out in front of you

great day though, good luck with the bumper and wheel repairs
