    Re: Talbot sunbeam

I'm rallying a sunbeam with a pinto, it is a tight fit but with modified world cup mounts it does fit. I also have a ford steel Bellhousing, clutch fork and slave cylinder modified for a sunbeam if you still decide to go that way.

      Re: Talbot sunbeam

Ive decided against the pinto just because of the cost to get the power out of it and i do like the redtop, is your car stage ready? Got any pics to share? And do you have any spares to sell , im looking for suspension , quickrack .....

Im also trying to find a boss so i can fit a momo/sparco wheel

      Cheers Arwyn

        Re: Talbot sunbeam

Yesterday i jumped into the navigator seat for a mate of mine in a 2.5 impreza, the ystwyth rally was held at the sweet lamb rally complex in mid wales, we set off from Aberaeron at 5am and we had gone through noise and scrutineering by 7 so it was a few hours wait until our 10.08 start time, first test went very well and we were 22nd overall , we had over an hour wait until we were out again, my brother was driving in his first rally in my old sierra and it was misfiring badly so I spent my hour trying to get it running properly

Second loop started with a blow out on the first corner, handbraked around a cone and hit a big stone which popped the tyre off , we had dropped down to 28th

Third loop was going to plan , having a good laugh on the way round , we came skidding into the last control , we had a bit of a mouthful off the marshal and with that i forgot to ask her to sign for the last codeboard we wrote down which resulted in a fail, that put us down to 39th overall and thats where we finished after the 4th loop

My brother managed to get around on 3 cylinders for the whole rally without fails and got 30th and 3rd in novice class

This is bizarre, this is indeed my very first road car from 17....I was going to buy it back myself but was told it was rotten....seems not then....bought it from Squires brothers when I was 16 for £750 !!

Hi Brynmor thats interesting and thanks for letting me know , how many years ago was that how long did you own it for? No theres hardly any rot on this one, its had some patches welded on front floor panels but nothing serious and i found a bit more rust around the windscreen , i bought the car from telford without engine and gearbox

Wire brushed and cleaned the interior yesterday and gave it a lick of paint tonight, looks cleaner now, rollcage will probably be coming out and painted to match the car

Bought it in 1995 and owned until late 1998...that white paint is odd as it was all red back then....cage came from Swansea and fitted by me and my late dad in 1995

Ye someone had painted it on with a brush and looked quite messy, this is a safety devices cage, is that the one you put in? Did you fit the door bars? Its on standard suspension at the moment but they are knackered so will be replacing soon cheers for info

Azz, sorry for the late reply, I don't get on here much. Yes I currently rally my sunbeam on tarmac, currently 202 bhp pinto/quaiffe clubman box, ap monte's on front, chrysler 180 rear, 4:6 4HA rear axle. Can ever manage to post pics on here. bit of a shakedown season to get some setup info on the car this year, sorry i don't have any spares for sale but I do have a contact for someone who can rebuild your rack with 2.2 ratio kit and also fibreglass parts inc complete dash. I have to say though that it makes the steering really heavy to the point, I am now fitting power steering. ( much heavier than my escort).shout if you would like the number.

What power steering kit you going for? I had Roger Kicks up here the other day using my car to make a kit for the sunbeam and it looks the dogs nuts!

Don't seem to see sunbeams out in the lanes anymore, looks like a very tidy base. I'm looking into a nice road rally spec xe for mine, what sort of power are you expecting with the work you mentioned? Has your engine builder got a shop?
