Thanks, the spot lights on the old loom were done through relays but the normal lights were well dim. I tested the original wiring & the resistance is terrible.
I can understand why a pro loom is £3000 with all the work involved!!

Looking good, where did you get your relay holder and pop out breakers from?
Roll on Jersey then - Good luck
Paul
The relay boxes are the 'standard' ones from any automotive electrical supplies, these ones came from vehicle wiring products in Notts by mail order. They are meant to be mounted on the surface but I modified them to fit flush behind. I bought the fuses ages ago, think they came from RS components.
Working hard to get the car finished in time for Jersey pray:
Looking good Mike,
Hopefully will come and have a nosy at it on tuesday
Matt
Did the winter stages rally in Talbenny last weekend, good weather & good day out.
We didnt have a great finishing position as we stopped on stage for about 5 mins to help a crew out of a rolled car.
My car went well all day without any major problems, the worst being the starter motor which lost all its 'teeth' again!
These photos were taken and sent to me by David Wilmer who kindly gave permission to post them here
Next event will be a road rally like the Y2K and the next stage event should be at Pembrey after Xmas
looking good their mike
nice to see a bit of oversteer
Keep the toe in !
And the arse out
Just had this sent to me, a clip of me on an hairpin up a hill on the Jersey rally.
Didnt recce this bit so had to trust the pace notes!
Clip
the same bloke just sent me this pic from Pembrey.........
Great clip, car looks lovely!!
Well Donecar does look very good in action
tommy 2000
Thanks guys, I'm hoping it will have a bit more power soon.
hows the car coming along mike ?
will you be at caerwent at the end of the month ?
Mike & Team newly christened "Murderer Motorsport" will be at Caerwent for sure.
We will be made up of a 3 car team( all escorts ) for the event and all involved are starting to get excited!!
Yes , regs are in already.
I had a split in a chassis rail which I've now fixed.
I've entered the road rally class so I'll be on yokohamas.
I think I will need a rolling road session soon as it hasnt been set up for ages .
Thinking of investing in a tension strut kit, a mate had his XE grp 4 set up with tension struts & it turned in like a go kart!
No problem, mine's a pint!!
You know my car is only just finished so i'm taking no chances, going to be like "Driving Miss Daisy"!!
Not going to wreck all your hard work on the car and put it on it's roof (wait until next event for that!).
fantastic should be a good days motorsport then
weve put an entry in using the metro 6r4 !! aaah scary im in the co drivers seat for this one to get some experience of caerwent , 1st time rallying in the metro & 1st time at caerwent should be fun . at least i will find out what its like for later in the year when i use the escort .
dont surpose you have any stage plans from previous years ?
kev
Think there is a link to some old stage diagrams on the british rally forum website under the thread
"Fast Impressions Tour of Caerwent". Basically all 90 degree corners with big kerbs everywhere!!
Brilliant event, you'll be back for sure!!
Matt
will have a look in a mo
thanks guys

Had a great day out on the Tour of Caerwent rally, the weather was good all day despite the forecast being crap.
The first stage was very slippy indeed & caught out loads of cars including the team seeded at car 2 who were last seen with the front end of the car nose down in a ditch.
I made a few more mistakes than normal & overshot 3 bends & nearly damaged the car on a 90 right when I went straight on into a high kerb.
We finished 48th overall & 4th in class. We also got the 'best turned out' award which normally I'd be very chuffed about but in a rally its a bit naff to have the best polished car .
In the last few stages it was difficult to change gear, the box is leaking a bit of oil but a top-up in serivce showed that it hadnt lost too much. I drove the car home from the rally & on the road it wasnt too bad until the last few miles.
I got under the car last night and found that one of the clutch slave cylinder bolts had stripped its thread & come loose. I'm assuming this is the full reason for the gear change problems . I've had to drill & re-tapp the hole with an M10 bolt instead of the M8.
The starter motor felt 'loose' despite the bolts to the bellhousing being tight. It turned out to be the bolts that hold the motor to the face plate so the motor came off to fix that.
One bellhousing bolt loose (hanging out), exhaust clamp loose, spring shackle bolts needed nipping up, one wheel bearing needs tightening, steering rack is kaput but apart from all that it survived well.
I spanner checked the whole car before the rally so it shows how much strain & vibration the car is under during a stage rally.
Next event - Talbenny Stages
Roll on Talbenny!!!
Can't wait, tried to spanner check my car last night but didn't really know what to check so came to the conclusion it'll probably be fine
Had a bit of an episode today, I'd fitted a new steering rack & set of the toe with a tape measure.
I was just off to get it checked & drove about a mile when my oil light came of and pressure gauge dropped to zero
Lifted the bonnet & found one of the oil cooler pipes had come off and sprayed most of the contents of the sump over the engine & the road.
The oil cooler pipes were bought pre-swaged but the crimps were miles too loose. one hose off & the other nearly off .
I pulled off all the 'high pressure' crimps with just my oily fingers as tools! I've replaced them with jubilee clips & it all seems leak tight.
Better now than during the rally on the weekend!!
Blood shit quality tho
How smug do I feel!
Took the car to get the tracking checked, I set it up to get it down there using a B&Q tape measure & aimed for 2mm toe in.
The guy wouldnt believe me as it spot on, showed me to prove it. He thought soemone had set it up on calibrated gear first
Thought it was driving well on the way down there!
Smart arse!!!
Had a good day out, forecast was rubbish but wrong as usual with dry weather all day . This was a round of the welsh tarmac championship so some quick cars were there.
Dewi Mason was in the co-drivers seat for this one, his second time in my car. 1st stage was slowed a bit as a Nova had hit a BIG farm trailer into the road leaving very little space to get past.
The car went well and we up to about 6th in class but on the very last stage the rotor arm failed & we lost about 4 minutes . This has happened to me before so I had a spare one in the pocket of my overalls, we got a finish but the damage had been done as there were just a few seconds separating lots of crews. Think we finished a few places from last .
Rhodri Lewis took these excellent photos & kindly gave permission to post them here. Thanks Rhodri

Great stuff !
Fair play Mike
class looking stage
Keep the toe in !
And the arse out
Looks good, glad it came out ok, when camera was in my car I forgot to turn it on. Just carried the extra weight for nothing!!
Very good
GavinR
Thanks guys.
It was a real squeeze to get the 5 film crew blokes in the back
Did some work on the car yesterday, the 'lug' had sheared off the lowering block that locates the top of it to the axle & the steel lug bolt that goes through the leaf springs (holding them together) had sheared off too so the leafs were 'spreading' & nothing was holding the lowering block in place top or bottom. All this on the drivers side.
When I was driving it I could feel the axle movement under throttle & lift off.
Fixed it all now & bought new nuts for the U shackes too. Havent road tested it yet.
Had the starter motor off again, inner bolts that hold the face plate to the body were loose again but this time one had sheared off! Had to strip it to get the snapped bolt off and fit a new one. Used Loctite retainer on them this time
Needs new inner throttle cables again, I normally get 2 events out of them before they start to fray. Brake pads are good for 1 more rally.
Fitted new dizzy, cap, rotor arm & ht leads.
The old dizzy bearings were so bad that the rotor arm cut a deep groove in the cap!
Bought a load of A7FS plugs form here, cheapest I've found them anywhere.
Car needs a new nearside sill, havent got the time at the moment so actually considering paying someone to do it.
how was the engine testing yesterday, sorry your test track was abit busier than normal
