There re ones you can buy from states that will fit mk1 6 clock dash pod . On even very small bike ones with speed sensors that can be fitted neatly , but on all my builds Iam using the rx8 complete clocks as they look cool and very cheap with wiring plugs from breakers .
Will try and get a plate all drilled and trimmed up this week .. Bit stacked out this week .. But get on ASAP .. With bolts and oil seal too .. P9cyo
cool, im interested in the plate kit so get pics up asap, waiting on word on a box tomorrow, sick of looking for a decent type-9.
As im in ireland, it makes it too expensive for me to get a box in the uk and get it here
If you in Northern Ireland its same uk .. So could courier one .. And I'll get it around other jobs get info up with pics .p9cyo .
Does the input shaft still fit into the spigot bearing on the crank or do you use an adapter to compensate for the adapter plate set back?

how thick is the plate? does the shaft not go into the spigot bearing at all with it?
Depending on which engine your using as some have longer shafts ie like v6 type9 .. So it can come with one that can be trimmed to what ever size is required , very simple or some you may not need ..
All kit comes as plate to fit most , all bolts counter sunk and normal as needed and adapter for spigot to use if required and oil seal for rear of box if using type9 prop .. Not needed if using rx8 carbon prop .. P9cyo.
Do you mean that there are different length input shafts on the RX8 box ?
Are you suggesting that by fitting the adaptor between the engine and box, the input shaft will not be in the spigot bearing ,and will need an adaptor fitted to the shaft to give it support in the bearing ?

Hi there rx8 gearbox shaft is all the same size , it's type9 that have different length . And if your running a v6 engine they use the type9 gearbox and with the plate or rx8 box you'd use the adapter .. And also different engines have different cranks sizes so it's just easy to supply one that's there if you require but most spigot shafts fit fully in the clutch and crank bearing . So mainly you'd only use the adapter on a ford v6 as this uses the the type9 with the longer shaft .. Hope this is understandable .. P9cyo.
I may have a gearbox for sale shortly as my rx8 just spat its bearings out and I can't afford a rebuild right now
What so your putting a cosworth on the rx8?
Hmm wish I had the equipment to do that at home and I can't afford to pay any one to do it
A lot of this depends on tyre/wheel size and diff ratio. Don't forget these boxes came out of OE fitted with 225/45/19 on RX8r3 i believe.
Also. the more gears you have means you are always stiring the box. Then you'll require power steering cos your left hands always on the gearstick.
R3 Came out on 19" as stated. My wife has just sold hers.
The main part of changing to this gearbox is its so much stronger than the type 9 .. And is very well made .. As for gearing depending on your use changing tyres won't do that much , it would be you final drive that would make the most difference ,ie your diff ..
Most people won't be that bothered about 1st gear as its only used to pull away.. And from 2nd on its good and will give some better top end , be it speed or revs to give better mpg .. Not screaming at top end , but better made gearbox than the type9 .. P9cyo.
Not sure if the inputs are the same but the 192 version had a five speed box
in reality, 1 inch difference on wheels has very little effect on gearing, so all this was it 18 or 19 is largely irreverent
Back when mk1 escorts all had gutless 1100 engines and 12 inch wheels , going to 13 inch wheels made a huge difference
So much so I remember swapping in a 1300 crank to get up hills LOL
These days it's generally offset by lower profile tyres to bring rolling radius back to starting point.

yes and cars are nowhere near as guttless and an 1100 mk1, what did they have 42bhp? well nothing that someone will be trying to fit one of these gearboxes too
thats true. my fiesta had 16" wheels out of the factory but the ones with 17" wheels had the same rolling radius otherwise they would have to make different speedo set ups for cars with different sized wheels. Thinking about it, it is the same on the bmm my 18" wheel vs my mates 19" wheels both have the same rolling radius compensated by tyre size
type 9 vs rx 8 ratios as you can see you can use a slightly longer ratio with the 6 speeder and still have a close ratio box similar to the tran x type 9 which would suit me as i would use 2-5th normally and 1st for hills if i had to and 6th would be nicer on the motor way with my 3.75 in my atlas. I will get round to doing it one day......

Im thinking about having a fiddle with one also tbh.
Looks a big lump tho .
I been saying for a while Id like to have a VAG 18t mated to one of these boxes in my mk2..... never got round to doing anything about it as yet though
Yeah I know mate thats the kit Id eventually use. I drive my Leon Cupra daily with a generic Revo map on it and reckon with the low lag of the K03S it would be a great set up in a mk2. I did some calculations a while ago and worked out that an RX8 6 speed box on 175/60 13 with a 3.54 diff will be pretty close to the Leon on standard box and 16 inch tyres. Maybe slightly longer legged but thats not an issue considering the weight difference between the two cars. I think it would make for a good fun car that can cruise comfortably on the motorways.
Bolt in same as type9 so straight onto the adapter plate , and there's no issues with fly wheel as in same place ..
P9cyo.
Quick stupid question, apologies,
Will the bell housing on the rx8 gearbox unbolt so it is possible to mount it, with an adapt, on on my sigma type 9 ally bellhousing so i can keep the starter and cable clutch? The adaotor will be inbetween the bellhousing and the box, not between the bellhousing and the engine.

I have spent a bit of time google but not found anything so.....
Can anyone who happens to have an RX8 6 speed or has already measured one, let me have the dimensions as follows -
Engine mount face to bellhousing split
Engine mount face to gearstick
Engine mount face to other end (total length)
Also has anyone got/can post on here a photo of the engine end without the bellhousing on as I can't seem to find any pictures of a gearbox in this state.
Thanks in advance

richs, many thanks, can you confirm that if you undo the bolts that look like they hold the bell housing on you then expose the end of the gearbox (input shaft end) and therefore need to do something like the Leen cover to get around this ? Do you also know the length of the input shaft from the engine end to where it enters the casing ?

I have seen one in progress to replace a T5 by cutting the ford bellhousing at the same point of contact to the mazda box & alloy welding the two together making a direct replacement for the T5 , it is the same length as the T5 & the gear lever lands in the same place, its not fitted yet so cannot comment any more on this but all I can say it is possible .
ALLWAYS EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
any updates on this chaps and is it deffo as easy as it sounds
Going to look into this myself, picking up a 6sp RX8 box next week....
