    Cheers...

We'll probably do the Middlewick stages at Woodbridge in May - that's nice and local for me. http://www.mcac.co.uk/events/middlew...stages2010.htm

...and possibly squeeze in a track day at Woodbridge this Saturday 24th. I'm on the reserve list at the moment.

Ah, I go on holiday on the 22nd May, so can't do that one -

We should book ahead and get a big Turbosport turnout at one of the Woodbridge days later on in the year.

Sounds like a plan to me Jon, are the trackdays on any of those narrow overgrown side roads that look super slippy though?!

The rallies at Woodbridge generally weave in and out of the buddleia bushes - but the track days don't use them and have loads of run-off room. Which is a good thing, I've seen the damage that some of those bushes have done to cars...

Sounds good then, and not TOO far from Matt and I. Is the rally there good? Might be another one for Matt and Tom to consider.

I've not actually competed in a rally at Woodbridge yet, but I think they're generally pretty tight and twisty and quite slippery - using lots of the side roads and lanes between the bushes. Lots of sideways action.

If everything goes to plan, I'll see you there

I did a gymkhana there earlier in Feb, round the buildings then in and out of the bushes, great fun

Difficult to say how slippy a stage rally would be, it was raining hard on the gymkhana so it was slippery everywhere

Ah fantastic, see you there hopefully!

Tony should be there too I think. He finished first overall at Sculthorpe last weekend in his Evo.

Ah, didn't see this post in time...

I spotted you were there - I did wander over at one point but it didn't look like you were around at the time. It was verrry slippery wasn't it... not a good day to be on slicks. Lots of fun though.

Oh well - we must definitely say hello next time then...

We finished 15th O/A, 7th in class. I was struggling a bit with a combination of too much power and not enough talent. We had great fun in the wet though - a few spins but no damage. We were on slicks - although to be fair they were soft-ish ones with cuts in, but we still had no grip. And my throttle is pretty much on or off which made it difficult to put the power down in the corners - so that's something to work on.

Its the first rally we've done at Woodbridge. Some of those blind corners through the buddleia bushes came up pretty quick, didn't they. It was good to see Gavin get a good result.

I think the Richard Burns Rally at RAF Marham will be our next one in August.

An honest statement, and one that can be worked on.
I would definatly say get the throttle ratio sorted, ages ago i was looking at a trace from a throttle pedal, and the minute adjustments the driver made where astounding, the wheel speed/road speed trace showed when wheelspin occured .. the slight lift driver did resumed traction. It went on to show how as the tyres went off, fuel load changed, the driver % of throttle changed, by tiny ammounts. It went on to discuss the merits of on/off switches or progressive pedals for both brakes and throttle, with throttle being cammed to allow larger movements of the pedal at small throttle openings and small pedal movements when approaching full throttle ..
I tried to find it again on Google, but everything is about Piquet's WOT on his crash into the wall .

Yes. I have a grp4 throttle pedal which, compared to a standard one, has a longer distance between the pivot point and the end where the cables attach - so this doesn't help the pedal ratio. The trouble is, I didn't have the option of keeping the standard pedal because I needed the throttle cable to come through the top of the inner wing in order to clear the exhaust.

...so I just need to devote a little bit of time thinking up a better way to do it.
