Anti tramp help needed. Axle dimensions.

I am trying to fit some anti tramp bars to my mk2 escort van. I am having some issues getting them to fit. I have got some straight gp4 anti tramp bars as the van has an early mk1 setup for the dampers. It does however use 60mm wide springs. Measuring between the chassis rails where the atb mounts fit, and keeping the bars parallel the brackets at the axle end are too far apart to fit between the spring bolts. I can move these slightly outward as I have removed the spring saddle. But I still wouldn't get them in.

Looking on the net for a mk1 rs axle the atb mounts seem to sit much farther in. Does anyone have a drawing or axle that they can measure? I want the centres of atb brackets and the spring hangers.

Alternatively let me know where I am going wrong as no one else seems to have had problems like this.

No pics showing ! But I found this (bad) illustration - https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...f9I3g&usqp=CAU
The mk1's with the 45 degree shocks deffo have tramp bar mounts beside the spring U bolts as opposed to the mk2 variation that has the mounts about 1/2 way between the spring and diff housing!

Yeah that's right. The issue I have is they seem further together at the axle end than I think it should be. To get the bars parallel then they fowl the spring clamps. Do they taper in slightly on the factory fitted ones? I don't want to do as most people suggest, which is weld the chassis end and just see where they lie on the axle.

not sure what you mean really but they dont fit parallel ? they mount closer together at axle than body.

mikes correct, they dont fit parallel, sitting at an angle allows them to double up giving sideways location to the axle

The ends of those anti tramp bars appear to be square. It looks like they are meant to be fitted parallel. The anti tramp bars on my RS are angled, not square. If the ends on those bars are indeed square, then I would be concerned about fitting them at an angle. Surely the misalignment would create quite a lot of twist in the bushes?

There are 2 types, one straight set of bars, I imagine being parallel as fitted to early mk1s and vans/estates. The later ones are angled but should still be parallel. It seems as though they don't mount parallel after all. I would still like for some one with a genuine mk1 axle with atb to confirm the measurements though. I will wait until I am sure of thier position until I tack them up

Two types, straight and angled. The "straight" and "angled" description is how the bar itself is mounted to the ends. So not if the bar itself is angled or not.
