Unfortunately with the tongue being a muscle the hole doesn't heal open like nipples or navels. Instead the muscle just learns to grown around the ends of the bar and eventually you end up with a concave shaped hole in the tongue in which the bar end sits in and gets stuck in. I'd had mine for about 4 years before it started to happen to me, and now 2 yrs after having it out i wanna get another one
