    Oil cooler

What is the minimum size pipe bore and fittings on a YB (turbo'd). Would you buy 1/2" BSP or 3/4" BSP?

    I have a 235mm 19 row Mocal cooler which is 1/2" connectors.

I have a Mocal stat which is 1/2".

I have two engine block take off's one in 1/2" the other in 3/4".

I have a remote filter head in 3/4".

A bit of a mix really. I could cobble them together but if 3/4" BSP is at least the minimum then I will have to have another think.

I did want to go with 1/2" as that is what I have got most of but the fact that its a trackcar I dunno.

I have not used one one the car as yet with no issues. If I put a 1/2" BSP set up on - thats better than nothing surely?

Any help or asvice appreciated (please don't say 3/4" though ).

    Re: Oil cooler

Depends on the output of engine.

Do u have a oil temp gauge?

I recon the STD Cossie cooler [water/oil] are good value, as they heat the oil up as well as cool them.

    Some reading...................

    Re: Oil cooler

I will be using a proper capiliary fed temp gauge tapped into the sump.

I will be running a stat too.

Already I have read that I could stick witht the standard oil/water set up to having 5/8" unions and fittings.

I did make a mistake by the way - all the 3/4" BSP I mentioned are actually 5/8" BSP.

I will be fitting it to a track car behind where the passenger headlamp used to be. Airflow and debris should be no problem there.

    Re: Oil cooler

you should really be running all 5/8 fittings on a pinto based engine,

you can get all sorts of adapters to step oil cooler fitting up or down a size, infact my oil cooler is 3/4 but my take off is 5/8 my local tractor spares shop had what i needed adapt the cooler take off to the big 3/4 hoses ( i had noticably less pressure drop on the bigger cooler) but anywhere that specialises in hydralic hoses or agricultual machinary should be able to sort you out, and quite cheaply too

    p.s i do actually mean 5/8 and 3/4
