    Angry £1.13 a mile!!!

    http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...547884,00.html

Tossers! People are not in their cars in rush hour for the fun of it - they do it TO GET TO WORK!!!

I'm doing a 50 mile round trip each day on the A1m and I'm fooked if I'm gonna pay £1.13 a mile to do it!!!!

I will be forced onto the back roads, along with everyone else, so where is the logic? It just moves the problem, it doesnt solve anything.

blatantly made up by someone who has never been near a car or motorway in their sad sheltered life. The only way to stop rush hour is if everyone works different hours and thats never going to work either is it? Maybe if they stop adding more speed cameras, extra traffic lights, speed bumps, stupid chicanes in the road, etc, we might have have a chance of getting to work in a reasonable amount of time!

    Re: £1.13 a mile!!!

For me 50 miles a day works out to over £50 a day...
    ...thats over £250 a week...
    ...thats over £1000 a month !!!!

I may as well give up work. I just couldnt afford that. What are they thinking of? I dont understand their logic.

I use my car for work too, it's all part of my job. So I cant take the train... nor could I afford to!

    Re: £1.13 a mile!!!

Am i missing something here?? How does charging £1.13 per mile relieve the problem of congestion?? If it is to force the majority of people to use public transport then we will face a bigger problem, yes the m-ways will be 34% less congested.....but how much more congested does that make the public transport? In london it will make it chaos, what with the congestion charge and then this would fill the underground trains to bursting point i think

They need to pull their fingers out and make roads capable of taking the traffic, like doing any repairs/extensions faster and of a better quality as most of the roads i have driven on are utter shit. Look at the section of m25 up around j10 i think, its basically shitty old cement/concrete that was put down probably when the m25 was made!!!

and the tax on everything we buy, and the tax for it being made, and the tax for bringing things into the country, the tax for buying a house, car, tax when you die, council tax, national insurance (tax!), tv license, etc, etc.

Yep, apparently a new report calls for Bigger trains, longer platforms, extra lanes on motorways and improvements to motorway junctions, and also backs the principle of road pricing.

Although this is meant to be introduced gradually when there is political support for it and yep, a new Bill giving local authorities powers to consider local road-pricing schemes could be afoot .

Personally I prefer the Bigger trains, longer platforms, extra lanes on motorways and improvements to motorway junctions option

Lets hope public/political support doesn't back it...mind you they'll probably get us another way...

I believe the proposal was written by the former chief of BA, so if he's been in anything other than a plane or private helicopter for the last few years, it will have been driven by his chauffeur as he sat in the back glugging down a G&T and reading The Times

Pointless getting worked up about this - more important to try and guess what watered down measure they'll introduce at a later date that's "better" cos' it's "not as bad as it could have been"

Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car

Yea, its another tit who drives a desk in government, doesn't drive obviously, and is probably a save the planet freak. The highways engineer on the council where I live doesn't have a driving licence. I remember going to a meeting with him once, and tried to talk to him about traffic, and he hadn't a clue what I was talking about.

    Re: £1.13 a mile!!!

Just worked it out if I had to pay £1.13 a mile to get to work and back then I would be working for about £15 a day. Can't use public transport as no buses go from where I live to where I work and the trains won't get me there on time as I start work at 7am and the first one will get me there about 7.40. Then I have to walk for 20-30 minutes. Still I could always sell up, piss the money up the wall, and sponge off the goverment that will help the economy no end.
Of all the things I've lost, its my mind I miss the most.
