What powersteering kit to choose? Mk2 Escort lhd

    Hi!

Im in the process of sorting out the steering on my left hand drive mk2 escort.
I needs a quickrack and while im in the process of sorting out the steering i want to install a electric powersteering kit at the same time.

I've been searching a bit on the forum but most information seems to be a few years old, so i would be quite happy to get some more updated and first hand experienced opinions on the options out there today.

First off, quality of fitment and of the parts in usage are my #1 priority.

Secondly i want to keep the originality if possible with switchgear, ignitionbarrel and everything else in place.

Therefore i have found that reputable companys such as Grp4fabrications and Rix Engineering both do their own kits.

The Grp4fab kit seems like it wont work together with the original ford switchgear and ignition barrel, or have i understood this wrong? It looks like a complete corsa column.

And Rix Engineerings kit, any experiences? I dont remember having seen it on the market for such a long time. I've got the impression that its a fairly newly developed system. Plus it also looks like it wont accept the original switchgear?

Any other suggestions of kits are happily recieced.

    /David

i think all the kits are based on vauxhall corsa parts, so you might not be able to find what you are actually looking for

Have a look at this...... http://leonbirchall.co.uk/easysteer/bolt-on-column.html
Its a combination of escort column and shaft mated to corsa motor and joints mated to escort lower shaft.
I've got a kit but not fitted yet as i'm having to 'adjust' the top mount and motor orientation due to the pedal box master cylinders but that not the fault of the kit - its very complete.

I've been aware of this kit for a few years, but whats your first impression of the quality?
Reason im asking is that i bought one of their deluxe rollover jigs a few years back for my mk1 escort and the quality was not good. I had to take the anglegrinder out and cut/re-weld some areas for it to work properly...

I'd say mine was ok - the welds look good and are reinforced where necessary. Can't comment on the electronics but as its just a pot added to std Vauxhall stuff it shouldn't be difficult to screw up! One bit i'd have done differently - but only found it by cutting stuff up, it doesn't affect anything and doesn't affect use.
