Sound like you were going really well Paul.............these things happen, and at least it was a very small off.
Now I bet that's wet you appetite
Hi Steve - Mmmmm maybe not "very small", but it is all only superficial damage from a 2nd gear off - nothing structural, and nothing that wont go back better than before, so I am very grateful and/or very lucky...
Once again, thankyou to everyone who took time out to follow our progress during the day, and to those who have been in touch since to offer any help to get the car back together.
The organisers have just sent me the stage times, and its very encouraging . On the final three stages we did, I was 19 secs, 24 secs, and 19secs faster than the nearest 2-litre car, so the concept of standard Honda power is defintely sound....
I'll do a report tomorrow with more info...
Thanks again guys,
Paul.
Well done Paul, the odd scrape is gonna happen but at least its all fixable and most of all you proved the car works and is very quick too.
Whats next on the agenda?
Sierra cosworth turbo race car
QMN saloon car championship
RETRO Motorsport
oh I think there's a little more to it than 'standard honda power'!!
I'll second that............
What? Its totally standard - everything from the sump to the cam cover is 110% bog standard, straight from the scrapyard standard Inlet manifold, throttle bodies and an ECU is the only difference from your average S2000 hairdresser's car
Having said that, the list of improvements in my head is growing and growing:
New front panel with bigger cooling ducts (like Matts)
New rear panel with RetroMotorsport touches
Quick-release the sumpguard
Better quality bonnet
Jazzy small number plate to make room for the bigger air inlets
Rear anti-roll bar kit
Latest G60 gearbox upgrade - swap bush for bearing on output shaft
Change brake cylinders to get better pedal feel - and use stronger pads
New steering wheel boss
New paintwork in engine bay and boot
Modify tank mount to make fuel tank removal possible
Fresh anodising on some parts
Engine re-map to suit revised throttle body spacers
Data logging being added to help sort mis-fire
Replace Samco top hose for ally version
HID kit for lights
Better intercom
New fuel rail plumbing to suit new throttle body spacers
Finally get round to fitting the carbon headlamp bowls I've had for over a year
Add brake cooling ducts
etc etc
As you can see, its going to be a busy winter!
Cheers,
Paul.
Sounds like you have plenty of plans to improve the car Paul and I am sure the results will be very impressieve judging by the stunning build quality so far and look forward to seeing the results
I was thinking more of the Standard Honda / Driver Combo Paul...........think Merv was hinting at the same
at least you got your photo in motor sport news this week paul
Yes Tim - if only they'd do that when we do well eh?
Never mind, there's a small report here:
http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...c-rally-Escort
Not quite as good as Gavin's, but it is my first
Cheers,
Paul
Ahhh thats the nicest thing anyone has said to me this week
don't get too excited dude
Had a good long chat with Gary about the car over the weekend, and I'm not sure who's worse - him or me. Despite it being "a bloody rallycar", his creative juices are flowing again, and the accident repair appears to be turning into a "phase 2" re-development
We're hopefully going to take the opportunity to relocate the oil cooler/filter housing to tidy things up, plus possibly the header tank so that there's room for an airbox in future. Between us, we've also had some other ideas about changes to the front panel - for improved cooling, installation and looks
At the back, the tank mount is being changed to save weight and make removal/cleaning far easier, and a modified rear panel fitted. However, I'm not leaving the workshop while Gary is at that end of the car, or they'll be another airsaw incident like when we did the gearbox tunnel (he has too many other mad ideas!! )
More pics in a fortnights time hopefully.
Cheers,
Paul
If you need a hand stripping it up at Garys let us know..
Sierra cosworth turbo race car

Thanks Dave - I'll keep you posted when I know whats happening.
Cheers,
Paul.
