    Mk3 Cortina GT 2dr V8 project

Took me long enough to find the right one, but eventually this is the lucky Tina, that's gonna be transformed into a V8 beauty. Not a quick fix project, but bit by bit, it will hopefully come together.

The 2 main components of the project are ...

    1/

    1972 Mk3 Cortina GT 2dr

    2/

302Ci small block Ford motor, from 1967 Mustang

Thanks to Rob (bortaf) for selling me the shell, and all your help

    Re: Mk3 Cortina GT 2dr V8 project

Don't really think I'm ahead of you Zebra. I haven't got a car, all I've got is a shell needing alot of work, and an engine.

I can't make up my mind what to do about the arches.

I reckon the Escort front bubble type arches all round is an option, as is the Cologne kit with alot of fettling, but I also think it would look just as hard, slammed, with a tubbed out rear and big rubber underneath.

I know that's already been done, and the arched route would be different, but there's nothing to be gained by being different if it's just gonna look shit. I really need to see some better photoshop attempts before I make a decision.

Not decided on a gearbox yet either, but I'll have a look at prices for a Mustang 6sp manual, and then when I regain conciousness, I'll probably opt for a good old T5

Colourwise, at the moment, I'm leaning towards Maize Yellow. A proper retro GT colour, and looks good with the BVR (which I want to re-fit) and probably a Webasto/Britax full length s/roof too.

Gonna have a chat with my bodyshop man this weekend, and try and figure out some sort of costing plan, so we both know where we stand, and figure out what parts I still need to find.

I love 2 door mk3 tina's, going to be a top project Guy

I always fancied a silver one with Black vinyl roof, gxl front lights, lowered, running on 7x13 silver 4 spokes

reckon that would be spot on, nice choice of engine too, suits the muscle look of the car

    please dont arch it though

Yeah, I've changed my mind about the arches. Gonna tub it instead. That's if it ever gets started. I think I need to find someone else to do this one

    Bag it and it can

Tina is easy to do that to as well, being coils allround and wishbone front end

I personally would bag it, run it that low but tubbed under standard arches

    Re: Mk3 Cortina GT 2dr V8 project

Well it hadn't moved far, since I got it, but now it's off to it's new home at Old School Customs, in Kent.

If anybody fancies having a go at my rear engine conversion, I will be selling kits at a later date

Also found out today, that the engine is from a 1968 Mustang, not a '67. Not sure if that makes a difference to the flex plate on the C4 I'm hopefully getting from Nightmares - fingers crossed

Not gonna arch this one now. It's gonna be tubbed instead.

I picked up the front wheels, ARE Torque Thrust II's, a couple of weeks ago (8x16) and have ordered the rears, which have to be built up. They are 11x17 with the shallowest back space I could get, which I think is about 3 1/4". Nice deep dish to them. Gonna run 315/35/17 rubber on the rear.

Progress is being made on the bodywork now. Still plenty to do, and I need to find a n/s/r arch (rocking horse doo-doo)

I just sent the latest £££ instalment for some more goodies.

9" rear with LSD & Tru Trac locker, inc h/d shafts & bearings.
    Wilwood 4 pots all round.
    Wisbech Engineering front end ...

Custom made to fit, and fully adjustable for ride height, castor & camber etc. There will be power steering fitted too.

All the best with the project Gmac. It really is fascinating to see a Uk spec 2 door version Cortina, quite common in Europe mainly.
