    Project Le Mans Mex

Though it was about time i put some pics up of my mex restoration so you could all have a nose, I have had the car about 5 years, and it was complete but a total bucket when i got it, shame I dont have a scanner as I have loads of pics all the way through so far, but only later ones digitally

the car started life as a 73 le mans green mex, and when I got it someone had painted it daytona with pink (faded orange) rs 2 stripes, it probably wasnt the best project around at the time, but it was originally Lemans (the best colour ) and I'm satisfied it's a real one, and I was desparate to sqander some more cash on old crap

I have loads of nice shiny bits to bolt to it, just need to get finish off a little bit of welding, loads of grinding and find about 2k for a paint job

    Cheers Glyn

just going through my old threads, as I have hit some problems with this one (all the front panels are out to the left by about an inch ) so all the front's got to come off again, but i have this evening just won some brand new inner wings on ebay and I have some new outer wings and slam panel in stock so I just might make 2006 after all

    Hi ya Mark

Glad someone missed me I've been realy busy with my new job but I'm just starting to settle down. My 3door 5door is just about stripped down now, engine and gearbox out. Interior out. Just got to drop the suspension then get rid of the shell. Then the mk2 work starts!!!

    Glyn
Glad to hear something might be starting on the mk1 front Will find out later from you what's going on!!

    Re: Project Le Mans Mex

Got a phone call from the place shotblasting my new wings and bonnet (they were brand new but some donut had coated the inside in some rock hard underseal stuff ) and they have "rippled" the new wings by having the shotblaster set too high

must admit i really feel like throwing the towel in now this car owes me about 8k and it just keeps going backwards

    What a bloody nightmare Glyn

How bad are they? who was shotblasting them? if they have admitted they had the blaster up too high and that is why they are damaged, then surely they should be paying for them?

If not are they repairable? I know a dings guy that can straighten just about anything and doesn't charge the earth, but if they are badly sretched and rippled they may be beyond metal finishing.

Glyn . Dont give up, Like Mark said the paintless dent guys can do wonders with metal, and while he is doing your wings he may do anyother little marks around the shell... that the blast company did..

Hiya mate, i think we all had our setbacks at one time or another, maybe take a couple of weeks break from it, spend lots of time looking at classic rally dvds and im sure it will give you renewed enthusiasm as thats wot i do!! Chin up Mate kick the arse of the shot blasters too as they should have advised you of the potential pitfalls of this kinda work on panels?
    all the best

Thanks for all the kind coments peeps, I just feel like I'm banging my head against a wall constantly with this one I have done quite a few projects over the years and this has without doubt been the greatest pain

so against my (and everyone who's seen it ) better finacial judgement I have decided to soldier on (with some help from Mr Cogan ) so you never know it may get there one day

Re: Project Le Mans Mex, lets try again

The Mexico shell is now at my workshop, and we have started to sort it out.

We started out by taking the wings and front panel off to see what sort of mess was underneath.

And we found some good bodgery had been going on round the wing rails, I think this bit would have let in water

The other side wasn't any better, creatively different maybe, but not better.

The inner wing strengtheners were quite artistic and had a kind of post impressionist feel to them.

    So we cut one off

Not sure what I have to do with this sill and A post to make it fit right yet, but thought I would take a pic anyway.

And I think we will sort this out while we are at it
