    Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

I'll be buying some 205/60/13 tyres for track use, on my pinto powered mk2 escort,

im tossing up between, and no idea on compound I would want, I have run yoko a048's on my last track car

    toyo r888r
    dmack DMt-Rc
    nankang ar-1

anyone used any of the above? What compound and what did you think?

R888R are a very good all rounder.
Not as god as some in the wet but the good tyres in the wet don't last long in the dry.
    So happy medium.
    Prob good deal from Tweaks.

    Khumo V70A's - 215 55 13's, best track tyre you'll find.

Re: Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

Soft or super soft for hillclimbs, generally my old worn softs for track but ideally id use mediums for track days, i just kinda throw on my old worn hillclimb tyres for a track day play but they start going off after 6/7 laps. Love these tyres, they are really popular for sprints, alot of guys say they grip as well as some slicks, they are the tyre of choice when having to use the MSA 2b list

I have heard bad reviews about them but then there is so many variables.

Nice to see someone that's had a good exsepriance them.

ive used v7A, bloody brilliant, only thing they are not great with is proper proper standing water, but then again, most sticky roadlegal trackday type tyres wont

Very true any track focused semi slick is useless with proper standing water,

I had a huge off at Croft, coming up the back straight in my 106 rallye, rounded the dog leg and was met by some of the hardest rain I've seen, track went from bone dry and hot to standing water, I was running yoko A048's, I aqua planned and spun 3 times and went into the corn field backwards, luckley did not hit a thing but did rip the mud flaps and wheels arches off.

Re: Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

I've found them much better in the wet than A048's, stiffer sidewalls too. I've yet to drive on a better road legal comp tyre

Re: Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

Hey guys, really want to get in on this conversation as I've just gone through the same process.
I was running 185/60/13's R888 on Kermit and the same on my previous RS2000 and I loved them.
As everyone said, not great in the wet but I still did a track day at Combe with the on and it just meant you had to drive better

Anyway, I'm now out in Canada so I don't have the same great options it would seem as I did (you do have) so ended up getting some 205/60/13's on 7" rims.
I've only run them for a break in period then I switched back to my 185's for the rest of the day.
I'll hopefully let you know how they do after June 18th

BUT, I'm really interested to hear about the Kumho's?
First, Graham, do you mean V70's?
Secondly, Erikmex, do you mean 215/50/13's? I ask this as Khumo don't seem to list 215/55/13's in their sizing guide?
I might talk to my tire provider (see how Canadian I am now ) to see if he can get Khumo's?

Also, has anyone tried the Nankang AR1's? And can you get them as we had some ordered then the provider said Nankang had stopped them??

Sorry to steel your thread Warrior but hopefully this will help you as well
    Cheers

Re: Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

yes v70's think they are also called v700's

not used them myself, but i know circuit racers who dont rate the nagkangs or dmacks, saying that the yokos/toyos/kumhos are a better bet

I was tossing up between the toyo r888r and the nankang ar1, the only reviews I found where people who were given them to test, I currently have nankang toursports on my escort for the road and have used them on the track both wet and dry and was very surprised how much they had to give,

I've had friends run the nankang ns2r and rated them good, but don't think they have ever run a different track tyre, I was speaking to nankang at a car show when I took my car for there for a tuners stand and track time, at the time they came to speak to me about tyres and said that 13" tyres where in development and that there's where better, but they would,

I would like an honest independent review on ar1 if anyone has any exsperiance.

Re: Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

Apologies, yes 215 50 13 Khumos, ive used A048's and R888's and find the Khumos far superior. R888's are ok but they're a road type tyre carcass, Khumos are more of a competition tyre but with a better tread design to cope with wet conditions.

    Hi guys
Don't want to thread hijack but really interested in what you guys are paying for 4 of these tyres?
The quote I'm getting over here is pretty high and I'd like to do a comparison if you guys could help me out?

Also, really thinking about looking into buying from UK and asking a friend to ship them? Even with import duty it may be cheaper?
So, where's the cheapest place to buy in the UK?

    Many thanks,
    Cheers

    For Anyone who searches,

The tyres are the best track tyre I have used, very progressive, last longer on track with out over heating, the smaller stiffer side wall make the car feel far more stable.

I can go along with the positives on these tyres, running 235/45/13 inters on 9" rims unbelievable grip with no snappiness when breaking away. Did suffer with tread rolling on the fronts but think that is more to do with my set up rather than a tyre problem. Just in process of ordering another set but also going to run along side a set of slicks for a comparison.

Re: Track tyres? What's your exsperiance's

I also changed my rear springs and fit some 4 pot front brakes, I've watch back in my GoPro from last time I was on track and this time, on it knocked 16 seconds a lap off. With the suspention brakes and tyres, (coming from road tyres) that's money well spent I think,

Croft at Darlington, was a 1:59 lap 3 times in a row with the old setup, and with the new set up 1:43 both were timed back off the GoPro. And both where nice sunny days, not bad as I dynod my car on Friday morning to find it only had 113bhp

The quote I'm getting over here is pretty high and I'd like to do a comparison if you guys could help me out?

Also, really thinking about looking into buying from UK and asking a friend to ship them? Even with import duty it may be cheaper?
So, where's the cheapest place to buy in the UK?

    Many thanks,
UK prices are usually insanely high !!

Where are you that they're even higher ?
