    escort mk1 mk2 4 pot upgrade 260mm disc

    Ok then, first off you should know that im out in the sticks as it were, and 2.8 capri discs along with austin princess calipers were never imported here in thailand.

    Luckily the Escort mk1 was imported along with the bmw e30 and volvo 244.
    Its this combination that ive used to build a half decent 4pot brake setup.

    Using the BMW E30 DISC








    Starting with the disc, BMW E30 as used on 320 325 etc, the front face is machined down by 2mm, this moves the disc away from the caliper mounts/lugs on the escort hub/strut.The disc center is opened out to the same diameter as the original escort, new M12 holes are drilled to match up with the Ford hub .







    The caliper used is from the Volvo 240 range its the vented disc model we are after, the mounting holes are machined to suit the 3.5 inch fitting of the escort,, you can see theres plenty of meat on these calipers.

    A spacer is then used to center the caliper on the disc









    Next step is the brake lines and to check if this fits over 13" wheels

    I do pretty much the same thing, I just use BMW 5 Series 4 pot calipers. Busy with a set at the moment. will take some pics.

    was just thinking the other day my 2.8 calipers and disks should probably be upgraded

    I looked at a set of E12 calipers, old 5 series, they look identical to the volvo ones, are they the ones you mean?

    Cost of this setup so far

    Calipers/pads 120 gbp pr recon
    Discs 40 gbp pr new
    machine shop 25 gbp

    Thats correct, you get 2 differant calipers , 1 for vented disc and 1 for non-vented.
    Did the machining tonight on the disc so more detailed pics to follow soon. My setup will fit under a 13" rim with some trimming on the out perimeter of the caliper.

    On my mk2 I have the above setup with sierra rear discs and BMW E12 master cylinder - works like a charm

    I just bought Volvo 240 4-pot calipers and Peugeot 307 1,4 front discs. Disc is 266mm. I hope these fit with 14" alloys.

    I machined the hubs. Makes rotor replacement a doodle.

    About 5 rubs with a file and they line up with existing.

    The center hub make alignment.

    Bolts for rotor torque.

    U will need to down size master cylinder, to make this work.......or use both feet on the brake pedal.

    Im going to try the 240 volvo master cylinder, right now im using a honda civic 1990 or so spec one due to clearance isues with the servo and supercharger, i will adapt the volvo one on an give it a try.
    The honda one has a long pedal feel at the mo.

    Be careful! my son used Volvo calipers on his Manta and had to massaage the caliper to fit under 14 inch wheels all was well for about a week then all fluid was lost and no brakes! The oil way is very close to the surface and it took a while but it eventually burst! Corsair.

    Has anybody tried this method of plumbing the 240 calipers?
    It seems to be alot easier than using the 2 brake lines into 1 junction block.

    Directly above is E30 260mm x Volvo 4 piston x Mk1 capri Leg and hub.
    I use 13 x 7 inch wheels.

    ull notice I dont use washers, but spacers, to center caliper on disc, after I machined a few mm of of hub to get it closer etc.
    I didnt thin down the disc center, I machined hub. There is a picture off difference above.
    The hole in center of E30 needs enlarging.

    That seems a very neat solution also for the plumbing the calipers.
    Where did you drill from and to where in the caliper, also did you disassemble the calipers to drill the 3mm holes.
