Ive unearthed a single 40 dcoe in my garage. I can get hold of a lynx manifold to suit a pinto but am I likely to see any real gains over the downdraft? I know a 45 would give me more scope, but I have the 40 already. Any advise?

currently in the fleet, mk4 3i cabby, orion 1600e turbo, 2wrd stage 3 saph, rs1800 mk5 van, mk6 ghia X, mk6 Si, mondeo zetec S gone, 1380 mini, Rover 600Ti breaking, two S13 200sx's. GMC S15 truck, and a retro twincam Tipo..
when you say over the downdraft, are you talking about over a std 1600 down draft which is a single choke carb, or a gt spec 1600 which should have a 32/36 twin choke.
single choke carb i say yes you would see a gain, probably a good few horsepower, but over the twinchoke probably not
Its a 32/36 on it at the moment. I did have a feeling I wasn't likely to see a worthwhile return

sounds nicer
Good luck with trying to get it to run right on a single dcoe, we and many others tried it 35 years ago and it was never a success despite trying many rolling roads.
Ill hold fire and live with the 32/36 while i build up a 2.1 i think.

You can have a lot more fun on a Vizard spec 32/36....
