Cosworth cam info
If I buy NA cosworth cams outright (not a regrind of my standard turbo ones) can they be used with hydraulic tappets, with a rev limit AND regrinds require solid tappets as the base circle is smaller but can rev a lot higher? Does this make sense?

Re: Cosworth cam info
err no it doesnt!
you seem to be asking two questions, yes you can get cams for use with hydralics, but im really not sure about the rest

Re: Cosworth cam info
Sorry for my complete ignorance! Any companies I've contacted about getting reprofiling done all say I need solids, but they have similar off the shelf profiles that work with hydraulics.
As cost is a major factor I thought reprofiles would be the cheapest option but will not be if I need solid tappets too.

Re: Cosworth cam info
there are cheap ways to go solid, using either diesel escort or fiat followers or converting your hydralic ones to solid

Re: Cosworth cam info, more info please
I'm considering a set of Newman cams for the YB, they have a lift of 10.41, whats the max lift on standard springs?

Re: Cosworth cam info, more info please
i dont know, but theres more to it than whether the springs can cope with the lift,
give newman a call and they will give you some good advise

Re: Cosworth cam info
They supply double springs (uprated to the max) as do all the other main manufacturers, but they need different spring retainers or seating deepened. (too costly)
Been reading des hammills book and apparently kents VS30 springs (opel parts) are direct fit to the cosworth head keeping the retainers and seating as standard.
They can handle anything up to 11mm lift and have the same poundage as standard cosworth items at fully open and fully closed, hence rev limit at 8000rpm as per standard cossie. I'll be no where near that anyways.
The research continues!
