    Rover V8 issues

Any rover buffs here ? ( is graham a convert ?&#129300
My brother has acquired an old landrover that's been fitted with a v8
Is believed sd1 and its injected.
It starts and idles fine (seemingly )
Revs fine at standstill but he says it holds back when driving badly enough that it's barely drivable.
Any common issues to these motors ? It's got a module in bulkhead possibly Lucas although I forget.
My first thought is fuel starvation.

I asked my cousin, he's got a V8 Landy.. This is his take on it...

The first thing to check is the vacuum advance in the distributor, and obviously timing, some rotor arms are rubbish these days, even new ones, cracked dizzy cap can only show up under load.....

    It's just an engine.

If you believe it is fuel starvation....is it going lean ? is fuel pressure dropping ?

Has it ever ran correctly ? How long did it sit before he got it ?

Potentiometer on the back of the plenum chamber is a known problem.

you are correct its just an engine - but its one i dont really have time to help fault find and unfortunatly owner is not a " fault finder "
hence i was hoping for an easy fix magic pill
as far as i know its been like this since he purchased it some time back............( was possibly stood for some time prior to purchase) , pump replaced but no checks as yet performed.
ive only seen it in passing, not been out in it as yet but i think its coming my way at some point

it will run lean and hold back, as the ecu wont know the throttle position.

might also be worth putting a timing light on it, as you stand in front of the radiator look into the engine bay no1 cylinder is front RIGHT, most people that dont know the engine will assume no1 is the other bank like it is on a ford v6

if we are talking about a tps - will it rev on the spot with that fooked ? ( sounds very nice when reved under no load)

he has researched and labeled the firing order - i did look at that and it appeared correct.

It's part of the ecu data, I'm racking my brain as its been a long time since I was working with TVR, I do remember issues like you've explained, and it was mostly either the pot, stepper motor or the air flow meter.

i can only find throttle pot and its on front ( rh side) ? cannot see anything behind unless maybe plenum is reversed on some ?

wont rev cleanly with throttle pot or airflow meter unplugged .
theres what looks like a fuel pressure switch on lh side of plenum ? unplugging makes no difference. its a 2 pin with fuel pipe from rail and its body is push fit into top lh side of plenum - it will give me a place to fit a fuel gauge tho.
