As far as i'm aware this car has been finished twice but paul being the perfectionist he is i don't ever think he'll be 100 % satisfied
Correct me if i'm wrong mate

Hi Paul,
Have watched this thread for a while,
The car is a real credit to you and your vision for perfection in a mk2, well done to you and everybody else involved along the way, can I suggest that you go out and get some fun out of it now!
Good luck for your future outings, I hope it all comes together and you make it to Montenberg,
Cheers,
James
Well done Paul, I look forward to the report from Monteburg
GavinR
Good news ..
Paul, your letting the side down leaving that manky discoloured fuel tank sight gauge pipe on show..... get it changed!!
Seriously, I've seen scrutineers pull cars up (inc mine) asking for it to be changed before next event as its supposed to go brittle when submurged in petrol for a long time.
Otherwise looking good well done
Well hope all goes well in Belgium for you and FFS bring it back strait this time ,two more years of this thread build would do my head in
And remember its only a sh*ty sprint and not a proper event ,save it till mull
Ha ha ha cheers mate.....

Have had the week from hell this week - more details next week.....

Sorry to say Paul had an accident at the end of SS1 and damaged the front of the car after a collision with a large bale on a chicane I think.
He went home via hospital.
I have non other news.

I hope that is not as bad as that statement sounds, after all the work and effort that has gone into the car, hope Paul and navigator are ok, cars can be fixed.
Paul will no doubt be along to explain.
I never saw the car post accident, but I believe it had to be towed.

Thanks for everyone's concern, its very much appreciated
As mentioned above, I damaged the car in the worst fashion possible at the weekend. We'd basically navigated through the wet stage - we'd cleared every corner - and then I somehow managed to aquaplane into the chicane right at the end of the stage. Whilst this would often result in just a few cones/barrels been strewn across the road, on closed-road events they use very big straw bales......
.....the impact damaged the radiator, bonnet, front panel, wings and the front of the inner wings - but was probably much less than it could have been thanks to the front end all being a Retromotorsport bolt-on spec (thaks Gary!). We needed a tow to the top of the hill at the flying finish, but then rolled down the road to our hotel where the trailer was waiting.
I've sent some pics away for opinions on repair costs, but to be honest I'm not sure what I'll do with it at the moment. As I touched on last week, we had the absolute week from hell getting the car ready, and it seems the more we spend on it and the more we try and do things "properly", the more hassle we're getting. With work being as busy as it is, I'm just not sure I have the stomach for putting good money after bad, and doing more of the same. I have a repair figure in mind, and if it's going to be over that I'm going to break the car or just throw it back together and sell it.
On a positive note, competing in Belgium is still as good as I remembered it from 10+ years ago. The journey was a doddle, the team we used (Andes Motorsport) were fantastic, the competitors and organisers are uber-friendly, the fans loved the car, the food was superb, and the beer even better. Why more Brits dont do it I'll never know...
More updates once I've weighed up the repair options - and cheered up!
Cheers,
Paul
Truly gutted for you mate
I really like the before photos', but I'm not looking forward to seeing the after photo's.
Bad luck on the accident. Hope you decide to do the right thing.
chin up mate as long as your fine thats the main thing.
Paul,
You can't sell it or break it.
Get Angelo or Retro to put it back together for you and start using it again.
You have got this far, you need to continue.
I have to been to hell and back with my car.
Twice I have failed to complete Monteberg, the last time inspiring a 15 month rebuild and about £15k spend.
Look how good this car is, and remind youself how much fun you can have with Andes Motorsport looking after you in Belgium.
Angelo did a PERFECT job for me.

gutted.so sorry to hear this mate but im glad your both fine paul thats the main thing mate
This is one of the best looking escorts, you can't sell or break it!
Great pic mista weava, angelo and his boys made us very welcome and hopefully paul decides to keep the car and we can revisit belguim in the future.
There was a good atmosphere in the town despite the crappy weather
I'm going to drive to Paul's and impound the car if he decides to do anything silly

Paul,
Sorry for your continual run of bad luck mate. But you can't sell it - it looks absolutely amazing sat there on the grass like that!
I have a rough idea of how you feel, as last year was a tough year for me with the car after buying the JRE - its was money going out hand over fist to get it all back together. Understandably, not to the same scale as you, but its was a fair few £0000's in the end for me, and i only did one and a half events!
I had to put it away in the garage for a few months while i saved some pennies, and looked for inspiration! But i'm back in love with it again (to a point where i don't want to race it!). What i love most is driving it on the road and how it turns everyones heads, the noises, the smells and the general awkwardness of it because its not built for 30mph. Then the old blokes come up to me and say "i had one of these when i was 18" and I'm thinking in my head - "not like this you didn't!" You can't put a price on the grin across my face!
If i can help in anyway getting it back together, then let me know when the time comes. On a plus side, you can now do all your rallies in Belgium - thats got to be worth keeping it alone!
Paul
Gutted for you Paul.
Get it back together, and have some fun, after all the effort you put into it.
