Fook!
Nice one mate... more than mine with throttle bodies fitted!!
Whats it drive like?
What are you reving it to in gears 2 and 3? Can you feel the power drop off after 6000rpm as it suggests in the print out?
hahahaha... you are 24 not 54
Mine will pull from 4k to 7k pretty much the same increasing in revs ans speed, and then not much after that... But, std cams, it's to be expected.
I have just ordered some 272 Newman Cams... I will let you know how i get on with em...
What are you using for the spark? (i've forgot) and what timing are you pulling on WOT?
Ha Ha I know I am getting on tho now. Dont mind the noise too much.
Yes let us know how you go on cause im thinking of doing some head work to mine over xmas Whats biggest cams you can have before you start doing bottom end work?
Im using one of them electronic ignition units from new Zealand (forgot the name) and its set to 15 deg at static or maybe a little bit different after being on the rollers.
Some good numbers there Keg for what is essentially a standard setup with 45's
Do you know if the engine is a 'big port' or 'small port' ? From what I can see it looks like it may be a smallport from a late AE92
Was there any induction system with it as this should give you an idea of the port size.
The smallport engine had a stronger bottom end and the head is more efficient than the bigport.
If you are using the ignition device from New Zealand I guess then you are using the standard distributor and wiring ?
As far as cams go 288 degrees would be about max for a standard bottom end as you would need to rev the engine to beyond 8500 rpm with anything bigger.
Watch out for valve lift too both in relation to valve springs (standard springs bind at around 8.5mm) and followers.
The standard followers are good up to about 8.5mm The problem is the shim can catch the cam at the edge and get spat out !
Apparently Toyota Yaris shimless followers fit the 4AGE head and resolve this problem.
9.5mm lift is the maximum you can use without fairly extensive head modification, the cam lobes hit the head casting at 10mm
Well the engine now has a knocking bottom end.... uppps was fun whilst it lasted rebuild time
Bloody hell!
Shit luck mate... Hope you get it sorted.
Hi Keg, its nice to see an escort with 4age, just to share mine, mk1 escort with 4age.
Cant wait to see your new setup. The 4age had been in the mk1 since 1995.
