car was origanally a 16 si,
once the car was stripped it was out with the grinders 2 make way 4 the gearbox and engine alingment,

then axle fittment, iwent 4 the sierra type purly coz it was cheaper and easier 2 fit and replace, so with the origanal festa axle hangers bolted thro the big axle rubber bush, we thort that its guna take sum bracing and messing about 2 fit the axle, it worked out a rite treat pushed the axle were we wanted it lowered the shell on2 it and the hangers lined up against the chassis rails so on with the cage, again i used what i could get cheap i fink it cost me about 8 quid ish 4 7 meters of 30x30x 3mm box

Re: my 2 ltr hotrod, swaffham spec.

i've always used track and road in rainham, the bloke who deals with the carburettor side of life is called steve pitcher, his the most miserable sod in the world and hates every ones car, prepare for it to get slagged off if you do go, but i continue to go coz he is absolutely fantastic with carbs, he really knows his stuff and will get it running a treat, thats why i would always recommend him, pretty cheap too, after i rebuilt my pinto, i popped along one saturday afternoon without a booking and he happily threw it on the rollers once he finished the car he was on, luckily mine was already running a treat and it didn't need anything doing to the jetting, it just need the ignition timing tweaking a little, and only charged 40quid for it! thiers also torque developments international (tdi) in lakeside retail park, they always seem busy so they must be good, i think they deal more with fuel injection and jap cars though cos last time i drove past it, they had 2 supras and an r35 skyline in thier, but they did have a vr6 powerd mk2 golf in thier too, i've been to a couple in kent aswell which i would recommend but thats getting quite some distance from you now cos your at the far other end of essex to me.

Re: my 2 ltr hotrod, swaffham spec.

well what can i say about 2days meeting other then, got 2 the track and passed scrut with flying colours then went out 4 its 1st proper practise waiting 4 the flag 2 drop she sounded perfect on dumping the clucth and flooring it i got a nice lauch then it just bogged down just 4 a split second and i fort 1st lap i was along side a proper raced up 1400 stock rod then coming in2 the bottom bend some muppet had dropped oil on the racen line, cold slicks oil on track well i fort about sayen good buy 2 my arse but no it worked 2 my favour just 2 poke the back end out enuff 4 a nice slide 2 give me a perfectr line 4 the str8 and passed the stock rod pulled like a train all the way down the str8 and tucked me in rite behind a 2ltr pinto powered seirra so a dab of brake arse end out slide again perfect down the outside of said sierra i done about 5 laps like that then i looked at me temp gauge n she was cooking hmm may need 2 pull of, then just as that it cut out, wtmf im thinking???? so parked up till it finished some what smug, red key on fuel pump on ignition on pressed the go button nothing, wtmf??? so sum good chap,

damm the fan belt came of a moved the trigger sensor, sweet problem fixed ready 4 race 1, lined up on track umongst ten other cars 2nd sweet all that was in frnt of me was a mk 1 astra with a 2ltr 8v on bike carbs i fort that was quick,. yellow flag half revs ...... green flag loadsa wheelspin then it bogged down again but abit longer a quick on off with the loud pedal sorted pulled me self 4 inline 4 the bottom corner still with oil on the line sweet il try me brake, power , slide trick, perfect but neil was struggling with tork steer outta the bend poxi fwd fings. but i kept on him 4 about 4 laps the same cornering each time but after about 6 laps the tryes started 2 work so had 2 change me cornering tactic, wich let terry (mk3 astra 2ltr 8v wit 45s) catch up and nip up the inside then

fan belt again and oil blowig all over the xhaust race over 4 me,
fixed the blocked breather and put fan belt back on,
hotrods 2 the pit gate a man called,
belts lid gloves, red key fuel pump , ignition, go button. it wouldnt even turn over, flat battery, no race 2, fuming 2 say the least, so 2 my beta half and some serious arse licking can i use ur car battery babe, will jump ya lata, sorted red key, fuel pump, go button..................... wtmf??????? nothing again... id snapped the mains lead bolt on the poxi solinoode, feckin banger boy bodgin fk wit pricks, had weled a bolt 2 it but my fault really 4 just allowing it 2 go on the car, push start of matey with a mk2 xr2 1.8cvh rapid as fk a handles like a gokart but fwd so gay, ,
hot rod final that man agin, sweet didnt even need 2 top up on juice, dad your fan belt hanging off againim goin home.. but hers sum pixs 4 ya

i'm gonna buy you a spell checker , bad news about the day though mate, but by the sound of it, when she does run, shes easily got the power to win, just a shame its abit unreliable, it might be an idea to get a guard for your fan belt, if your getting water and oil on your belt i reckon your gonna find that quite a common problem, and with regards to your flat spot problems, it sounds like an accelerator pump jet problem or your ignition advance needs tweeking abit, do you have a throttle position sensor? and i'll pm you over the number for track and road

Re: my 2 ltr hotrod, swaffham spec.

personally i'd leave it be, even then thats not really the best place to port, on the manifold itself, look down the main hole in which the carb bolts to, as it splits into the 4 ports, the top edges are very square and sharp, rounding these off would be your best bet but it can be a royal pain in the coont, as access is tight and can leave a horrible step if not done carefully, took me a good couple of hours till i was happy with mine. read up on this thread mate http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...ng+choke+flaps , i know its quite a few pages long but its real worth while and extremely interesting, i modded my 32/36 and ported my inlet manifold, and i'm nearly on 130 horsepower on my latest engine with a pretty much standard camshaft (caravan cam fr30), plus i get brilliant fuel economy too

I should have gone to Specsavers, I never saw your thread here!
Thats awesome mate!! Why did you take the Zetec out? A lot more power from the RS2000 motor?
I love your racing stories too, are any of the races on youtube? Get a camera in-car mate, that would be ace!
    Great stuff mate

Re: my 2 ltr hotrod, swaffham spec.

iya fella., when i first built it was a 1.6 zetec with the injection 43 racing on dirt but the 4th piston parted company from the rest of the engine, i then had a 2.1 pinto on injection but the bumps used 2 mash the the inlet so then it went 2 a 1.6 pinto with 2ltr pistons and a single forty and a 2ltr injection cam tbh my fave engine i had in, then had a standard 2ltr pinto bottom end with a stage 2 head and fr33 cam with cbr 900 bike carbs on raced that engine 4 almost a year on dirt,
i was then getting tired of panel bashing and haveng 2 chisel mud of the car so descided 2 go tarmac with it so instead of building another car i boxed the arches 4 inches on the back and angle the front wings out 2 take the 8 inch rear wheels and slammed it 2 the deck with standard fiesta legs with sierra springs allround, raced the first ever tarmac race with the pinto on bike carbs done a goodish meeting other then bein well under geared then snapped the cam belt whilst testing a nother diff,. the damage 2 the pinto was far 2 costly so i had the rs lump holding me bench up in me garage so fort stuff it other then silly teething problems its a wicked engine so torquey and pulls so well even with a 1.3 fiesta ignition pack it times very well,
due 2 the rules of our sport the use of a 16v engine permits the use of twin carbs or bike carbs so 4 now she using a 32/36 and sounds sweet as a nut breathing trow an addapted rs2k fwd 4 branch poking behind the back of the front passenger wheel, (warm sticky out side slick) s/s silencer under sideskirt now all heat wrapped in nice blue tape.,

I have a set to put on my xflow, 36mm things off a ZX10. I thought they'd be better than the standard twin choke. Do you think they are worth the bother?

next race is the 23rd mate but not sure if ill make it what with the axle bein in pieces and the serious lack of funds, missus soon 2 drop and the lack of motivation again and its last race of the season so may break it down ova winter do abitta strengthening and a diet, would love 2 loose all the rear end all together sierra axle is so heavy id like 2 change 2 a escort type axle all nicely linked up., wanna sort the tunnel out now im sticking with this engine may go 4 a 4 speed. rewire, new panels and a nice fancy paint job

congrats on the soon to be dad , thats more important then old fords atm, but the future plans are sounding proper mate, live rear axle, rocket box, lightening, all sounds the bollocks to me

oh and get a wicked flame job of some sort with a skull on the bonnet and some big flared arches

Re: my 2 ltr hotrod, swaffham spec.

ta fella,. all on a mega budget tho, mainly dreaming but i believe even not doin nothing 2 the car once the axle and diff are back in place shes a proper competative car, the great thing about the formula im in is that you dont need mega dou 2 be at the front, theres a few full national spec spame framed cars out there with arestricted engine and then you got a battered mk3 astra with a 2litre 8v with a fast road cam and twin 45s pissing over ex shp pug 206s and pumas, its a bit of a mission 4 us with a trailer about 2an half hours either way but 2 find a descent hot rod formula nearer home ie arena essex or foxhall stadium, there 2ltr hot rods are a ten grand + budget 4 the car only, i originally built mine with the 1.6 efi zetec lump to race on dirt mustta cost me not even 800. my tyres now have lasted a full year and cost me 99p 4 the 8 inch rears (love divs on ebay that cant spell) and £5 for both the fronts, spare rear cost me nowt as some old dear was gunna use it as a plant pot, spent about £180 2 put this engine in and get it running bearing in mind £100 of that was 4 the ignition alone, 50 4 the esc pack 50 on getting the pulley 2 a trigger wheel, in total i guess it stands me in about £2500, cant be bad i guess considering i know of a guy building a full space framed mk6 festa 2 race with us with a full race 1850 xflow lump and hes spent easily 12000 on it so far, but hell be restricted 2 using a twin choke carb and standard exhaust manifold, so really it a waste imo,.and i gotta finish the boys race car aswell, damn kids. damn another 1 again soon,
