    Lotus Cortina MK2 project

Hi all, well was wondering if any interest on here for this, my brothers 1970 lotus cortina series 2. BA91 chassis number.
We got the car several years ago, complete, but arches had some crap repairs so it was stripped out, new rear arches and inner tubs fitted, its all steel now, bottoms of the wheel wells repaired, then it had a full respray in a Ford colour.
I spent a week stripping all the under seal from the bottom of the whole car, back to factory primer, then sealed it up with a special anti rust agent, then a light shultz put back on, its like new.
Thats as far as its got , my brother says he is going to re assemble it but he,s lost interest now!
There is everything for the car, lotus engine, rocket box, interior, would take ages to type it all so anyone with proper interest can contact me! Would be a awsome car when done. I dont have the time to do it as have 2 cars in biuld myself!!
It owes him £10k now, thts what he wants for it!

Yeah have pics when we got it and of the work I have done underneath. Well as for the colour, its his car!!
Trim is very good, engine is very good, had new water pump in front cover, carbs sent away and rebiult, mint. Got proper steels and hub caps for it, full bush set waitin to be fitted. Needs suspension powder coating or painting when re assembling etc to make it nice.

Would your brother be open to offers as i know the colour is his choice, but along with the vinyl roof it kills the car, would need vinyl of and a full paint and would also be plenty more time/money will need to spent on lotus to get it right. Sorry about the comments about the colour, but car needs to be back to red.

Well car colour is like wheels, people have different ideas, in the flesh car looks great, dont see the piont of rubbin down a 3k paint job to make it post man pat red!! It is what it is so we will see what happens.

    Hello

I have been looking for a MK2 project for a while, having been a past owner.

If you are open to commensurate offers I would be interested, as to me also the Colour actualy severly devalues this vehicle I would actualy pay more if it had not been painted.

As to mechanical order, what do you know about condition of engine, box etc and is ALL glass present and in good order.

What about the Interior is it all present also.

    This is a serious enquiry

Hello kevin, well as you can see from the pics when we got it all glass is good, the interior is complete and in very good condition, we had the engine running for a short time before it was stripped, ran good with good oil pressure. The carbs have been rebiult at a webber specialist and are now spot on.
The pics dont do the colour justice as workshop is quite dark, maybe I should spray can it matt black to stop people moaning about the colour!!!!
All the panels are in storage waiting to be fitted back on.
    Cheers

looked a very solid car in red .a modern colour will always effect the price on something like a lotus.same on a mex or rs.not so much if it's a period colour. so many mk2's in other colours ended up in white and green.someones out there for it though

    Re: Lotus Cortina MK2 project

my mk2 lotus cortina was red, but then repainted ( not by myself ) white with the green flash.. because everyone thinks thats the only genuine lotus colour scheme...
the mk2 was available in lots of different colours and the 'flash' was an optional extra....

it looks a great car... but im sorry to say the oringal colour would make it worth more .. in my eyes... but everyone is different

wish i still had mine.... it's somewhere in liverpool last i heard... hoo 627h if anyone knows about it

really ... a lad rang me back in about 2000/ 2001 asking me if it was a genuine lotus ( he's found an old mag where i had placed it up for sale ).. i sold it without it's engine and it was sold as a rolling shell ... wonder where it is.... i loved that car...

I fear that what I am prepared to consider paying may be quite a way from our asking price, this is solely based on current market conditions where 10/12K can buy me a running Mark 2 in reasonable order, and you are offering a basket of bits effectively, where I have no way of running the engine/gearbox etc. If you have a change of asking price please contact me and I will come and view and if a deal is struck pay cash and take it away.

    Re: Lotus Cortina MK2 project

Loks a nice car & colour in my eyes.

I think what people are trying to say / point out ( i know from my brother owning a concours Rs2000 in the past) is with the chassis tags stating the oringinal colour in form of the letters stamped on it, the value is considered greater if it's in it's original form, this has obviously had loads spent on it making it a good oncours base to finish, to fall inline with the "in thing" it will need to be the same colour as the vin states etc.

I think in a round about way people are praising the work carried out and can see the value in it by the excellent finish and willing to pay a higher price if "original"

Good luck, someone will pay the money sadly i think it's going to be via ebay !!!!

    Re: Lotus Cortina MK2 project

If anybody else is interested in the car please feel free to contact me also. The Lotus will have an MOT this week and looks great. No rust, detailed underside and engine bay. Nice interior, with exception to missing the glove box lid as the previous owner fitted wood dash cover ( now removed) and car runs sweet.

HPI confirms colour was red prior to 1977 but no trace of red today. Chassis number confirms genuine car, including all the usual lotus model mods.

I'm selling for the current owner

    Thank you
