I’ve found it difficult to load for a while now. 30seconds to a minute. Hopefully this’ll be sorted soon.
Fingers crossed it's all good again now.
Well, it's certainly a lot faster as far as I'm concerned.
Gone from a cracking site to a waste of time 2024 waiting for pages to load or timing out...May aswell shut it down?
Not only is this forum very slow but it’s lacking in posters, even some of the hardened contributors seem to have gone silent. I am a hardened Pinto fan but I also think we should have had more tuning articles on 16v engines, let’s face that’s what has been fitted in most modern day to day cars.
Regarding 15 inch wheels on Escorts, 15 inch Forest tyres don’t look the part but 15 inch Tarmac do. A 15 inch Tarmac tyre has a slightly lower Rolling radius than a 13 inch gravel tyre keep the gearing almost identical. Modern 13 inch Tarmac tyres are far too low in profile with their roller skate appearance in my opinion, making the final drive gearing far too low. A nice looking 13 inch Tarmac tyre on an Escort was the good old Dunlop A2.
You were very lucky to find a decent set of genuine Mag Minilites.

Very slow
Ulimately only a small perecentage of forum users ever posted much in the way of content. they have mostly moved onto other things, and even these still active tend to hang out on FB for the instant chat/gratifcation. I dont think this forum is any different to others in that respect. i now post very little, but thats not because im on FB instead, i just have so much else to do there is not the time, for me car projects, hell even going racing are practically a thing of the past my business seems to sap all my time and energy. Its hard to find teh time to put You Tube content together and that for me is like being paid to advertise!

Is he the forum owner / webmaster?
basicaly unusable
I think possibly the Rally cam test have not only drained you mentally and physically but also financially, the cost of all the cams, the Dog itself with it’s new forged pistons, long rods and Burton head all come at a very high cost, let alone all the fuel and electricity that’s been consumed.
My main interest has always been tuning engines to give more power, especially head development and Dyno work whether it be static or Rolling Road. You have managed to give us an insight to all that and have produced honest and accurate power figures that no other engine builder has done out there on the Net. I thank you for what you have done and achieved.
40 years years ago I set up in business in Road Transport, now some days have very little rewards for one’s efforts, more traffic on the Roads, temporary lights every few miles, and some drivers out there seemingly wanting to crash into you and then to try and blame you for it. I seem to have to work harder and longer hours than I did four decades ago so I know what it’s like. I still wouldn’t want to change it at this late stage in my life,we just have to dig in deep and crack on, that’s the way the Tax Mam sees it anyway.
To me this forum although open to the general public has been more like a private members one where we can talk sensibly, help people out and learn all in the process unlike FB where family friends and others can keep a watchful eye over what we are doing and spending. If this is really the end of the Road for this forum and your videos I would like to thank you very much for all your articles and contributions, all the Breast has a good friend of mine says when he sips his first pint of Guinness.

no its not the end of the forun for me and certainly not the videos. Without wishing to sound like a stuck record my day job is running a garage and mot station that takes up 90% of my avaliable time and effort. staff shortages and other issues of late mean work has taken up even more of my time. im a long way behind on a couple of clients engine so i cant put much effeort into anything strictly non work related, in fact i do have video content in the pipeline, i just havnt made it. Cant have clients saying, "How come you havnt done my engine yet but you find time for You Tube?"
I did sneek a bit of dyno testing in the other day for a new design of intake manifold for an X/F running a twinchoke, it looks like it should give a good power increase over the Ford Gt intake, but its doing weird things with the fueling, i simply cant get enough fuel in the engine for it to work.
Also got a GTS7 cam in now, and discovered that despite flowing well, the Burton CNC pinto head as supplied is actually short on valve lift. i meassured up an RL31 in one and ended up with only 470 thou inlet left. switching to some shorter REC valves i got more lift but anm stil a bit short on the inlet side. G+S are currently making me some valves, patterned after REC valves but shorter. they will be expensive as i cant afford to have 100's made

Glad to hear that you haven’t thrown the towel in Graham. I quite agree that paying customers must come first, bread and butter customers are what pays the bills and puts food and drink in our mouths.
I have often banged on about the importance of the Pinto valve geometry much to some posters annoyance and getting the desired valve lift. Some say 470 thou’s ample for the Pinto to deliver decent power, whether the extra 30 thou at full valve lift makes much difference I wouldn’t like to say. I have temporarily removed the BF63 cam from my engine as two followers seem to have worn out. At the moment it’s running with a WR40 cam thats’s 41 years old, maximum inlet valve lift’s a mere 450 thou and less on the exhaust. It Really needs going on the Rollers to get a base line for what power it’s producing before reinstating the BF63. Again time’s always against me as I only have weekends free and no one seems to want to open Saturday mornings anymore.
When you get time I’ll look forward to the GTS7 cam test, I think that’s getting into the Race cam category and may need a good hike in compression.
It’s good to know that the forum’s back up to some sort of speed, all we need know’s some interesting posters.
These are the last two emails I've had from him.
I deleted some data from the database, but the site is still slow. I'm wondering why. Did the symptom occur a few days ago?
Then this one!
I deleted other data in the database, but it's still slow. I don't know why. Maybe there are too many threads, but I don't know which threads can be deleted.
It seems to take the best part of a week sometimes ten days between replies.
its been pretty slow forever. i have often wondered about the space the forum it takes up think how much space 20 years of obsolite for sale adds alone takes up. i will delete a few and see what happens, probabaly nothing

That's not a bad idea.
Just looking through Parts For Sale alone there are over 20000 threads covering 679 pages going right back to 2001!
Shall I tell him to delete anything older than, let's say 5 years?
And tell him to do that for all the For Sale categories?
ie. Cars, Parts, General Items and eBay items?
Though thinking about it some of the stickys are older than that, so not sure it'b be such a good idea.

I would be very careful about deleting stuff. At some times the loading speed of the site is quite good, so my guess it is a bandwidth or server issue. If it's a storage (Mb, Gb) issue then consider deleting the "ebay Mk1 and Mk2 Escort Feed", the "Men Only", the "Ladies Room", the "Top Tottie" sections. Will have a look at how many large attachments are saved on here. Deleting these could have more effect than deleting 100 posts/threads.
It just taken me the best part of 15 minutes to access the forum.
I think anything over 5 months in the For Sale section could be deleted, if anything’s hanging about after that time it’s not worth buying. There’s plenty of Porn sites on the Net without the need for one on a car forum so the Top Tottie section could go if it improves the speed up. Seeing as there are very posts on this forum now I do like like looking back a few years at past posts, especially in the Engine Building section.
bots might be slowing things
There are currently 869 users online. 5 members and 864 guests
I know Graham has said in the past there are not many paying members so to speak.
I just tried to pay my subscription just using the email address and even that was unsuccessful.
This was his last reply to me, this was Wednesday.
I think vBulletin, bulletin board software, cannot process many threads such as one million. So removing old threads in the board can solve the problem. If most threads are deleted, I think slowness will be gone. I don't know other solutions.
ok, over the last couple of days i have deleted 1000's of threads and some of the unused sections, its made no real difference, i think the answer has been given above, bots using up all the bandwidth, now as to exactly what the bots are, where they are from and how to deal with them i dont know
I'd guess that just giving 'Guests' access only to the front page and no where else would be a good start, and if you want to see more you have to register and new sign-up's MUST make a post in 'Introductions' within 7 or 14 days or be deleted could help! Any post promoting another website etc to be deleted immediately unless cleared by an admin first, wouldn't hurt either! Oh and giving the site 'secure' status would be good - i'm getting increasing grief from my antivirus / Chrome about this site being a plain 'http' !
in all honestly i havnt a scooby, but whats the difference between 1000 bots looking at the whole site and 1000 looking at the front page? they are still going to use up all the avaiable bandwidth are they not?
95% of the Guests are coming from a single server, with random unique IP's. I blocked that whole range of IP's but those Guests are still coming, so something isn't quite working. Graham has deleted a lot of old posts and entire sections but still the forum is slow. Tried to reset the cache that the forum is using but got an error message so must look into that a bit further.
If anyone has a contact number for Clint (Mr. Turbosport forum) please let me know, emailed him week ago but no reply.

i only ever met clint once, maybe twice. I have in the past tried to get him to do something for the forum, he just isnt interested. Not suprised he ignored your email if he got it, he is well known for ignoring comunications
Thanks gents for your efforts with trying to sort the site issue out. Disappointing to hear talk of letting the site go, it’s been such a great source of information, and I seam very close to finishing my project
Fingers crossed bots or bandwidth problems can be fixed
The forum is so slow, its become almost unusable. I messaged the admins about a month ago, but didnt get a response.
its like a new one this evening![]()
